Should I go to the er

r/

Hello, ik this is stupid to ask online but I’m extremely scared of hospitals

I was swimming today at a lake and then there was a kid on the floaty that started to float away and idk what I was thinking swimming after then without anything (I’m a good swimmer but still stupid of me to not grab anything I think in the moment I wasn’t thinking) then the kid fell into the deep waters and I got them but they started to push me down into the water. Icl I don’t even remember what happened I just remember closing my eyes and tried to push my head to the surface I don’t remember swallowing water but I did go under a few times

When my friends finally reached me I got onto a boat and then my head started pounding like crazy and my legs gave out, I still can’t fully understand what’s going on or rlly remember anything. About like 10 minutes after I started to feel fine my head still hurted when I moved too much and I puked a bit. It’s now been about an hour and I feel fine, head would only hurt if I like shake it, but should I go to the er? Gemini (the google ai thing) is telling me that I should no matter what happened but my parents won’t take me and my dad said I’m a 100 percent fine bc I’m talking normal acting normal and feel normal just a bit nauseous

I’m sorry this is so long and I shouldn’t be asking online and the smart thing is to go the hospital to just check it out but like I am flipping scared to go

I know you feel mostly fine now, but the memory loss, puking, and headache after being under like that aren’t normal. Sometimes problems show up hours later and get serious fast. It’s really better to just go get checked tonight so you’re safe.

You may have experienced “secondary drowning”. A trip to the ER may be the wise thing to do, but is a definite if any unusual respiratory symptoms appear, or throat tightening. Even if there are minor changes, go to the ER.

You could still have water in your lungs and it could potentially be dangerous. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah go to the hospital/er and get yourself looked at it could definitely cause issues even if you’re “fine now” go get yourself looked at

You probably experienced an adrenaline-rush, and it sounds like you crashed after. I think your body had a “fight-or-flight” response when you were in the water which caused adrenaline to be released in your body and when you got pulled up in the boat you were safe so your body no longer needed the adrenaline, etc. Google what happens after an adrenaline-rush and see if the symptoms of the crash are some of what you experienced.

Definitely go to the er. Your parents are assholes. Do you have a friend that can take you?

Go to the ER. There is a thing called dry drowning. You get just enough water in your lungs to froam up and suffocate or drown you. It’s treatable, but get to the hospital and get checked out.

Go to the ER or Urgent Care. This is what is called a positive MOI (method of injury) and basically what that means is that if EMS was called (at least in my former system) they would strongly urge you to go.

When you go to the ER or Urgent Care tell the doctor/NP/PA EVERYTHING. No detail too small. Tell them about ongoing symptoms in particular- like your headache, any breathing issues ect.

What they probably will do is take your vitals and listen to your lungs. They will also look into your eyes and do some cognitive tests just to gauge your awareness.

If anything pops up during that initial exam is when they will treat you. If you go to the Urgent care if you need more imaging and they don’t have it, they will transfer you.

You can always ask them to explain everything they are doing to you and why.

Please go to the ER. The experts say that it’s very important to get checked out after such an occurrence.

The complication they’re looking for is called “dry drowning” or secondary drowning. So they’ll be looking for something specific, like water in your respiratory tract. It’s not like they’ll be doing a huge battery of tests on you — They know what to look for, so you can rest easy. It won’t be endless procedures. 🙂

Actually, if you were my child i would have you be seen. Theres something called Dry Drowning. Its where water gets in your lungs and can cause fluid to build up in them and thats when the trouble starts. The vomiting part can be one of those signs. Google it and share it with your mom. Insist you go be seen. Glad you reached out on here. Nothing wrong with being proactive in your own care. Let us know how things go.

    I only read the title.

Yes. Or, at minimum, urgent care. When in doubt, get checked out. No need to post online, just do it.

Going under like that you are at risk for what they call dry drowning. It’s where water gets in your lungs some and you feel fine but it can lead to death. Most people that die from it do not get follow up treatment. Any time you go to the ER it is protocol to start an IV but you need to have scans of your chest not check for aspiration.

Better safe than sorry. It sounds like a scary experience with some atypical side effects.

Yes go to the ER and have yourself checked out for dry drowning/secondary drowning. Symptoms can manifest after several hours even after 48 hours just to be safe.

I find it troubling that your father is so non chalant about this. Everyone knows that it’s better to be safe than sorry! You dont know how long u went w/ out oxygen. It’s best to go… They will just check you out and make sure you are ok. Run some tests, and if ur fine, u go home, and you wont need to worry about it any longer.

This is an ER trip. Dry drowning is real and you don’t want to risk it. I know going to the ER sucks and can take hours, but isn’t it worth it for not only piece of mind, but your own health as well?

In my city we have an ER and an Urgent Care. (2 separate hospitals). The urgent care is much faster, less busy, and may be less anxiety inducing. If you have one where you live, it’s something to consider.

If you don’t know if you should Go to the ER you should just go

Go to the ER. If you get dirty water into your lungs even though you coughed or vomited everything up, the bacteria will still be there and cause a horrible infection and a very slow and painful death. Tell them what happened. They’ll most likely give you antibiotics and watch you for a bit. I know you’re scared but death is worse.

Secondary drowning. This is a RIGHT NOW thing.

  22. SurvivorX2 Avatar

I’d say go to an urgent care clinic!! Less costly!

  23. ArticleVisible3956 Avatar

EMS would require you to go because they don’t want any complications happening to you from this. Nor do any of us.It’s better to be safe than sorry.

How old ar eyou? Can you call friends/ Parents?

One thing to keep in mind– urgent care if open- you can call them.

If you go to an ER- which many people are telling you to do there will be costs- which are necessary and going may save your life.

That your head still hurts when you shake it is something you need to discuss with parents, friends, or call urgent care of a 24 hour nurse from your insurance.

If you don’t feel ok and your gut feeling is telling you to go, than go!!!
