Should I ask for forgiveness?
I (m24) used to be best friends with this girl (f23). We basically grew up together, went to same school, sports etc. We were basically BFF’s for life. It was always just friendship until I started catching feelings for her.
About a year ago I told her how I felt. She didn’t feel the same way. To keep things peaceful and avoid awkwardness, we agreed to end the friendship and move on with our lives. All of this happened within 5 minutes.
We haven’t spoken since. No texts or calls. Then last week I randomly ran into her at the grocery store. We talked for around 15 minutes, just catching up and asking how we’ve been. And she seemed uplifted after seeing me.
Ever since that moment, all the feelings I had for her came back, and honestly, even stronger. I spent an entire year doing everything I could to move on. And now I feel like I’m right back where I started.
Part of me wants to message her. I just want to apologize for how everything ended. And more than that, I want to ask her how she felt about all of it.
TL;DR: Told my best friend I liked her a year ago, she didn’t feel the same, so we ended the friendship. Ran into her recently, feelings came back strong. Should I reach out and apologize or leave it?
