Context: I (19M) am one of three sons to my parents. Growing up, we almost always walked around the house shirtless because it was never a problem and it was normal to us.. until now.
The other day I was shirtless in the front yard doing some yard work because it was hot af. My dad came outside a few minutes later mad because I was shirtless, pretty much letting my creep neighbor ogle me (the neighbor’s a weirdo and gets off by looking at guys). I didn’t see the weirdo across the street (even when I looked) so I didn’t know he was looking at me, but my dad pretty much told me to go put a shirt on. I went back outside with a tank top on to finish the yard work (again because it was hot), but he was still mad.
I talked to my mom about this and she said that I should consider putting a shirt on especially when I’m walking in the front yard (my room is in the garage, so I often walk shirtless in the front yard when I’m going to and from the front door and the garage door). My mom said that the same way she doesn’t walk in the front yard with short shorts and a tank top on, I shouldn’t walk around shirtless.
I see what she’s saying, but I don’t think I should have to wear a shirt on my own property. And it’s not like I spend a bunch of time in the front yard, I’m usually just walking to and from the front door and the garage door. But I could be wrong, so what do you all think?

Wearing a shirt might feel unfair but it keeps things calm and avoids giving the creep a reason to stare. It’s not about right or wrong just about being smart.
I mean yeah in theory you should be able to walk around shirtless in your own home and while doing yard work. But it seems like your parents are just trying to protect you from the dude across the street. It may be unfair, but it’s better to just put a shirt on than to give a creep a reason to stare.
Honestly, if you don’t care about that weirdo then don’t wear a shirt!
I understand why your mom wouldn’t wear short shorts because physically she’s weaker than the weirdo (I’m assuming it’s a man).
But I’m thinking you might be strong and taller than the weirdo (old and fat).
If you’re a 19-year-old man, you’re allowed to go shirtless, and creeps are allowed to look at you. It’s really not a big deal.
