CHP doesn’t seem to use very many lights on their cars, and their flash pattern is super slow. Huge agency that covers the busiest freeways in America.
This seems to be opposite of almost every other agency in America which has more lights than a Christmas tree flashing all over the place.

There’s not much thought put into it most places. “More lights gooder” is an old way of thinking that kinda makes sense until you actually think about it.
Someone that’s not the police installs the lights. cop turn light on. that’s it.
We started killing our lights except the yellow ones to the rear, I guess there was a study that showed less cars get hit that way… and there was push back. We have buttons that lower the intensity of the lights. Some guys refuse to use them.
There are some articles that suggest a slower pattern for scene lighting is actually safer than a fast, extremely bright pattern that can disorient drivers.
