I have never seen a single sketch from the show that made me laugh. I know comedy is extremely hard. Maybe it’s a cultural difference? It’s seems like a complete celebrity wankathon.

Bro watched all 50 seasons
The only skit that makes me laugh is the news bit with Colin Jost and Michael Che
Most are dry and stupid.
Occasionally they hit one out of the park.
Mom jeans.
Oops I crapped my pants.

OP hasnt seen COUPLABEERS
In last 30 years I’d say about 1 in 50 sketches I’ve caught online made me chuckle. For a live show it’s terribly tame.
real
In what world is this an unpopular opinion
The show has been on for 50 years and has aired 988 episodes so far. Considering that the show average is about 8 sketches per episode that means there have been almost 8000 sketches.
You’re saying out of 8000 sketches not ONE single sketch has ever made you laugh ?
In that case yeah, I think there’s obviously something else going on and clearly this show is not for you. Which is fine.
Over the course of 50 years, some episodes are better than others. Some seasons are better than others and some sketches are better than others. It’s impossible to make one blanket statement.
Not controversial. Let me do your job for you: Chappelle Show was not funny. Key and Peele blows it out of the water on almost every level.
Chapelle would be funny maybe 3-5% of the time whereas K&P are closer to 60% and had some legitimately genius premises for skits
And I’m Dooneese!!!!!
Not an unpopular opinion. Boring, but not unpopular
not an unpopular opinion. i will give one tho. SNL has always been bad and the reason people perceive the older seasons as good because they only remember the one or two good sketches are year and not the dozens of terrible ones
The whole Domingo/Espresso thing was so unfunny I don’t know how it went viral
I think people hold it to too high a standard. It’s like late-night TV talk shows. The humor is pretty thin and topical. There’s no depth to it. But we hold it to a different standard because it’s a nightly show.
Frankly, what you should be impressed by is the production of SNL. They write and produce a show in a week with costuming and sets. It’s pretty insane.
I’m not American, so the only sketches I’ve seen are the viral ones, e.g the Espresso/Domingo and the Pete Davidson/Timothy Chalamet rap ones. So I’ve always judged the show by these, seeing as they went viral for being ‘funny’
I absolutely agree it must be a cultural difference
That’s why it’s been successful for 50 years?
Sounds like you need more cowbell
Miserable fuck
I concur, it’s mostly super forced and unfunny – but some of the stuff deserves at least a chuckle. https://youtu.be/3sxRAeh8f7
I’ve always hated SNL.
That’s because SNL is not for the audience; it’s for the artists. I do stand up & the best advice anyone will give you is to constantly write. Writing more bad or meh jokes will make it easier to make good ones. If you have to write at least one sketch a week if not multiple, 22x a year, you get better. Most great comedians/writers did a stint at SNL and that’s why. It’s also good for promoting stuff.
Really? How long have you been watching SNL?
the older skits either make me laugh or make me really uncomfortable, there’s no in between
Dave Chappelle and Weekend Updates. Especially where they joke swap.
Those episodes. If you don’t laugh one time, you’re either a bot or foreign.
Probably don’t understand the English language or human interaction/communication.
Comedy is very subjective, there is not one joke that will be universally liked or disliked by everyone.
It’s pretty simple – if you don’t like it, don’t watch.
SNL is more for the talent than it is the people watching – which sounds weird as it is televised – but that’s just how it is.
In my opinion, SNL is largely classic TV humor (some seasons more than others) where sometimes it may not be funny but the premise and what they’re trying to do brings me along for the ride – Home Alone doesn’t make me laugh anymore per se but I appreciate the comedy behind it. An internal chuckle, perhaps. 🙂 I get the same when watching Friends.
It’s been mostly bad for a long time. Even at it’s peak some sketches were duds. As the show got worse, the duds increased
I wouldn’t say it’s NEVER funny but it has the worst funny to not funny ratio in the history of comedy.
honestly, agreed, I didnt like the porn teacher one since it felt uncomfortable to watch because people suffer from being manipulated and groomed by their teachers. I hate seeing horrible things being turned into a joke
It used to be funny. Unfortunately it’s been getting worse every year since 1993. Soon it’ll be so unfunny that it’ll make people cry.
