I made a My Social Security (?) account to request a replacement card after a house fire. When scrolling through the dashboard to find where to do so, I saw that I apparently owe Social Security almost $14,000 in benefits overpayment. I am 23 years old, just starting to do these things for myself after moving out, and have never filed for disability or unemployment, nor have I received any payments from Social Security for anything. What gives? What do I do? This can’t be correct, so is it identity fraud or just a mistake? What steps do I take to fix it?

Wow, that’s a doozy. How far away is your local SS office? I would make an appointment and go in person and explain it, for starters.
