Sometimes its better to just do what an officer says than go to jail

r/

I don’t get why when a cop asks for someone id, even if they haven’t done anything wrong they just need to hand the guy their id and they can continue with their day. Instead they always resist and end up getting booked with charges they didn’t need, I don’t agree that the cops are randomly stopping people for nothing but its just pointless to fight them over it when best case scenario you walk away and worst case your getting days in jail for resisting arrest

It’s also a man with a gun. Law or no law. Be smart not foolish and stay alive.

well in my state you arent required to tell cops anything about you and dont need to provide ID, address, or even a name. they can detain you until they get that info, but legally we arent required to do so. unless its being pulled over then why provide something i can legally deny?

edit: my cousin is a detective of over 20ish years and even he tells me to never provide any info unless legally required to do so.

Submitting to unjust authority is how you let them know they’re free to do it.

If they ask for id you just look like a guy they’re looking for. As long as you’re square, they run your name and let you go.

This is true to an extent.

Don’t let them violate your rights. The cops know your rights too and an officer that crosses that line and is willing to violate your rights is almost certainly looking for a reason to send you to jail anyway, complying with them isn’t going to change that and your best course of action is to refuse to comply with anything you aren’t legally compelled to comply with.

Refusing to ID until the officer can articulate your crime, for example, is a good way to test to see if an officer falls into this category. If they ignore your right to refuse, then you know for sure that they’re just looking for trouble. If they respectfully accept your refusal and move on, they’re what’s called a “good cop.”

Also, if you go to jail for expressing your constitutionally protected right to refuse the search, that opens the cops up to something called a “big ass lawsuit.” This is the real goal of a lot of civil rights auditors; to have their rights violated so they can make their local police department buy them a new house.

    “But cops are mean!!”

Do you really want additional charges?

You know what really helps with that? Being white. It’s like the ultimate get out jail free card.
