Because frankly the villains would probably kick the police’s collective asses, so it would probably be better if Spiderman just handled the villain.

Police can handle normal villains, but most of the time Spidey is dealing with super villains which your average cop can’t handle until after they’ve gotten their clocks cleaned by Peter.

Because only Peter Parker is equipped to deal with the superpowered nonsense he’s stuck his tracer to. Letting normal people fight the super strong guy in a bulletproof animal onesie is pretty stupid.

If the police could handle even something like the Shocker, the Shocker wouldn’t be Spider-Man villain.

I would like to see a spider cop story where Peter joins the NYPD and works inside the law.

Because that’s a great way to end up with a lot of dead cops.

You think the police are going to be able to take down super-villains?

A Spider-Tracer given to the police by a known vigilante is not probable cause for the cops to investigate. Even if they catch the criminals, the arrest would be thrown out. It’s not like Spider-Man can take the stand and testify.

So when the tracers were originally created, gps was still a fantasy. Pete can’t just track them using Google Maps, he had to physically track them down with his Spider Tracker which would just beep more when he got close to a tracer. Eventually, they realized it was one less thing to draw if the tracers keyed in on the Spider Sense.

So basically, there’s no way for Peter to alert the police until he’s on top of whatever abandoned warehouse his villain is hiding out in anyway. They just don’t work that way.

Because with great power comes great responsibility.

These tracers are unwarranted and illegal.

Why is the vigilante a vigilante?

There was a storyline once where all of Superman’s villains knew he was Clark Kent. Someone asked why they don’t go after him, the answer was he’s just Superman dressed up like a reporter… he wasn’t somehow venerable in that state. He didn’t turn weak, he was just Superman in cosplay.

Same situation for the villains, if the cops roll up on them what happens? The super villain tears them apart. Badly. Lots of cops die AND the super villain probably gets away.

The spider tracers he uses require his spider sense to track them. This was established in the stan lee days and hasn’t been retconned as far as I know
