His extra flexibility gained from his spidre powers allows him to keep the webshooter far enough down that he can activate it by bending his fingers towards that area of wrist, in a way a normal human being can’t move/bend/twist, so for grabbing things and punching like a normal human, the webshooter is out of the way.

His web-shooters are designed to only work with a specific amount of pressure is applied in a tap motion.

So it had the intentions in mind when they were designed. So when he punches the force and time applied are different. Same would go for lifting something.

His web shooters require a very fast double tap(with a decent amount of pressure) to activate as opposed to a constant presences that would happen with a fist.

It is a very specific application of pressure (middle and ring finger pressing down gently) that activates the web shooter, even in the Raimi films where it’s biological rather than technological. There’s a sequence in both Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man that shows Peter practicing and falling a lot as he gets used to hitting the trigger just right.

The actual motion to shooting web requires him to flex his wrist back, which opens the nozzle, and double tap the button, which is located further down, like about just above the wrist, when you make a fist, your fingers curl in about halfway onto your palm.

Given that web fluid is apparently expensive (for Peter) he probably did work out the kinks so he wouldn’t waste it by accidentally thwipping people when punching, or shaking hands.

The web shooters are activated by a double tapping the trigger. So even if he touched the trigger when making a fist, it would still just be one tap.

So most of these answers are half right.

When he made his we shooters he factored in his spider strength. To activate his web shooters he made them so that it takes about 60 or 70 lbs of pressure to do it. Additionally where you place your fingers when throwing a punch is not in the same area as where the triggers for his web shooter are located.

    >The hand-wound solenoid-needle valve on each web-shooter is actuated by a palm switch; this, in turn, is protected by a band of spring steel which requires a 65-pound pressure to trigger it. The switch of each is situated high on Spider-Man’s palm to avoid most unwanted firings. An additional safety measure, to prevent misfires while Spider-Man is making a fist or carrying things, is that the trigger has to receive a double-tap from Spider-Man’s middle and third fingers. The small battery compartment is protected by a rubber seal.

Spider Man once explained this to his biggest fan in the 90s animated series. Most versions of the web shooters are pressure sensitive.

there is a button.. he pressed the button for webs.. ?

Can you jam his web shooters using a special “double tap” concussion grenade that works the same way that mine clearing explosives do?

I remember reading somewhere that he has to apply 65lbs of pressure to the trigger. Which probably makes no sense because I’m sure I’ve seen people use his web shooters without super strength in the comics.

I’ve never thought about this. Then I read this post…

    …Thanks.
