I love the idea of Star wars. The games are fun. The movies and TV shows are okay. But I think the universe idea is the best part of it. The stories we are delivered are lackluster even the original trilogy. While technically advanced film wise and paved the way for many special effects. I think the world building ultimately carried the franchise more than the stories we were given.
People hated the prequels then one day it seemed like everyone said oh they are good. But everything you can nitpick on plot in the prequels you can nitpick just as many issues in the original.

Yeah, I agree. The world is great, the alien races and the weapons and the Jedi and Sith are great.
But Hollywood hacks just can’t come up with good stories to tell. Star Wars is at its best when its kept simple and uses tried and tested tropes–the original trilogy was the hero’s journey and had tropes as characters, the young hero, the rogue, the wise mentor etc. The Mandalorian was again a tried and tested formula–tough, gruff badass escorting a cute and vulnerable character through danger and bonding with them.
There is tons of great StarWars content out there. The novels(Xwing especially) & comics/graphic novels are amazing. The movies & some shows lack, but Rebels & The Clone Wars were amazing.
This is not unpopular whatsoever. The original star wars is the most cookie cutter story ever. It’s an extremely unoriginal hero’s journey “farm boy” story arc.
It’s the worlds, the ships, the lore, the aliens, and the atmosphere that make it unique.
I feel the same way about Fallout4
Have you watched Andor?
other than that, I agree with your opinion. And George Lucas kinda knew it too. He viewed the franchise as primarily being a merchandising vehicle.
