Other than running which I’ve been doing good with, what else should I do to prepare? With both working out/diet as well as things to buy that helped you guys during academy. Thank you all in advance.
Starting academy in 2 weeks. Advice on preparation?

Just mentally be ready to “play the game”. Be there 15 minutes early, be motivated, and don’t do dumb stuff outside of class. It’s going to suck when you’re in it, but in 5 years from now you’ll realize it was one of the easiest things you did. Also, take pictures if you can. I regret not doing that in the army or when I did the academy. You’ll have a lot of good memories to look back on.
It’s easy. All you have to do is not quit. People here will say “don’t be first and don’t be last” but that’s a loser mentality. Don’t fall into the “we all get a badge” crowd. Any instructor worth their salt can tell
If you’re capable of being first and hold back.
Study law hard. That’s where most people I’ve seen trip up.
Don’t fuck anyone. Don’t fuck any students, don’t fuck any instructors, don’t send any dick pics, don’t even think about doing any of it. Just don’t.
What state you are going for your academy. You should be fine. A instructor once told me graduate as if none of the training officers knew you went through the academy. That means lay low. Do your work and try not to get in with all drama. The Academy is pretty much school so just absorb as much information as you can and you should be OK. Good luck.
Learn to meal prep so you have one less thing to worry about. Do it on the weekend so you have at least dinners ready. Lunches too if you have to bring lunch to the academy
Start memorizing 10-codes, precincts or sections, DAAT items, alphabet, learn it ahead so you don’t have to cram that plus book work into your nightly routine.
At least that’s what I’m doing, and I find out tomorrow on next steps and academy starts in July.
Be prepared to blend in. Don’t be the idiot in the class but don’t be the ass kisser. Show up early, do what you’re told, go home.
Don’t volunteer, keep low profile.
What rocked me, work out and run when you anticipate running. I went from west coast evening runs and workouts when I finished work, 7 to 9 pm. The started an academy on east cost and had to run 6a, est time. I was in shape and physically ready, but was not attuned to the time change.
Something to be aware of.
Stay out of personal drama. Cliques will form naturally, be careful about what crowd you fall into but also don’t disparage anyone or gossip. Establish a good reputation for working hard. Remember, perception is everything. Also, always work hard to be as squared away as possible, if you show up late, aren’t shaved, messy hair, ungroomed, stink, don’t have your gear polished or lint rolled, people will remember and hold it against you.
