I recently watched the four seasons of Stranger Things, it did not interested me when it was released in 2016, but as time went by I started to become a big fan of RPG, science fiction and Lovecraft-style cosmic horror, so Stranger Things came to mind, and since it’s a very popular series that addresses this aspect, I felt obligated to watch it.
The first two seasons were very good to me in this aspect. The mind flayer looks so terrifying, as a malevolent entity from another dimension should be here. We learn that it controls all the demogorgons and seems to be in control of the upside-down.
And the just threw all the vibe away in season four.
They made mind flayer being just a creation of Vecna, which we later discover is that nurse who wanted to help Eleven escape, and that in fact he was the inspiration for the doctor to create the experiment with the children, as he had those psychic powers naturally…so the terrifying creature was just a toy of a bitchy ass man who wants to end the human race. He just sounded like a spoiled gifted child who thinks he have the key to destroy and built whatever he wants, and even with the powers, I could absolutely not take this character seriously.
I just think they tried to focus too much on the drama envolving the villain and erase emptyness that an interdimensional superior being has. Not that every science fiction/cosmic thriller must have a character like that, but ST completely changed its tone to change it.

I watched it with my wife, more because of her interest, then my own. It got incredibly repetitive.
All of the characters are separate, doing their own thing. Then they come together to defeat the big bad.
It never worked for me.
The first season was good. Second was alright as well. It had a very clear direction, an 80s nostalgic style.
But it started making money and got ruined like everything else corporate gets into.
It’s big because it was good. We hate it because it became big.
The first two seasons are definitely the strongest. I’ve enjoyed it but am glad they’re ending it too. Probably overstayed its welcome by one season.
S1 and S4 are great
There’s a lot more that’s going to be revealed in Season 5. Vecna is an unreliable narrator.
The Mind Flayer is in charge.
The series is just a love letter to late 70s-80s pop culture with an emphasis on sci-fi/horror. That’s it. It’s what the creators probably imagined a collaboration between Spielberg and Stephen King would have looked like.
I thought the first season was very good. S2 was a step down but still decent enough. Then it just became shit, dragged out and repetitive with these sorta forced “viral” moments like the guy playing Metallica in hell and the Running up That Hill theme. You just know they were dreamt up not by the writer but by a bunch of suits in a boardroom thinking “what will go viral on TickTock”
S2 should have been the end of it.
