Subpoenaed to testify as a witness. What should I expect?

r/

A little backstory:

This incident happened location: New Jersey. Road rage incident where the other driver hit me deliberately causing an accident.

I let the driver make a statement to the officer and then I proceeded to show the officer my dash cam footage. He was caught lying but let go with no tickets issued.

His insurance paid everything out and it was all settled. Police report stated that the officer viewed the footage and the other driver was at fault. This all happened late last year.

Fast forward to today. I received to testify as a witness in court. It is the state vs John Doe.

What should I expect? How can this guy be in trouble 10 months later? The court couldn’t give me much information other than I was only speak to the prosecutor directly and nobody else.

I’m really going into this blind hoping someone can shed some light.

If you go they’re just going to ask you what happened that day and what you saw. Nothing crazy, if you’re feeling iffy about it and don’t want to go you don’t have to. They will say they will do this and that but ultimately they have no power to force you to testify.
