I hate bright sunny days and much prefer cloudy or rainy days. I will say, I have an eye injury and severe light sensitivity.
But even excluding that, I absolutely cannot understand the appeal of a hot sunny day. The heat is awful, it makes everything less enjoyable. And for some reason people like to gather in crowds for hot days, making it even hotter?
No, Karen, I do NOT want to go to your fucking barbeque on the hottest Friday of the year, surrounded by grills and warm bodies.
And, yes, I prefer swimming in cloudy weather. I’m not saying I want to get out of the pool and be freezing, but a comfortable 60 F or 15 C with clouds blocking the sun iis perfect for swimming. And I do enjoy swimming in the rain, but I don’t do it because I know it can be risky lol.
Finally, maybe it’s just the hermit in me, but I hate how much people talk about being excited for sunny days. Talking over me as I’m working just to talk about hypothetical hang outs. As if they can’t barbecue or go outside year round? These extroverts are annoying.

not even sure if this is “unpopular” i’d say there’s an even amount of people who side with both sunny and cloudy/colder days
I’m not a big fan of hot Sunny days either.
So much pressure to DO something. And if you’re surrounding area is depressing or ugly, it just makes it uglier. More stark. Unless you live somewhere with palm trees and bright aqua water, the sun makes everything look harsher. Not cozy, got to get out there and get things done. You can’t nest inside under a blanket. Now when it’s sunny out.
I mean I agree with the sentiment. I’m a cloudy cool day over a hot sunny day. However the anger in your post is a bit much.
Also not sure if I’d call this “unpopular”. There’s people who like cold and people who like hot…..
Upvote for your unpopular opinion that I agree with wholeheartedly. I hate summer
You can’t exactly barbecue year round unless you have an outdoor situation that would make that work. you should move to London!
I also prefer a cloudy day. 70°-75°F and cloudy is a perfect day.
Where the hell are you swimming at 60°F? Objectively speaking that water is freezing to be in, unless you’re talking about a very well heated pool.
Absolutely. Hate them myself. I’m allergic to sunlight and get migraines triggered by afternoon light.
Sun good, heat bad.
I’m not a fan because I’ve been concussed enough time that light just bothers the shit out of my brain
I’m looking for fun cool people to hang out with! Your great vibe and winning personality and positive energy. The next cloudy day maybe we can get together and complain?
This is truly a redditor take.
You get my up vote for actually being unpopular
The little dig at extroverts at the end was a nice touch.
Arizonan here and we collectively agree with you.
I used to agree with you, then I lost a ton of weight and it turns out heat+fat person is a bad combo.
Upvote because it’s unpopular. I definitely agree though; I can’t stand the hot (by my standards) and sunny weather.
I love the cold, the early, dark nights. I can’t wait for October and the clocks going back!
People who likes hot sunny days do not live in a tropical climate where it is hot and humid as balls all year round. Sunny days are only nice in cold weathers.
I’m with you. I always say my favorite weather is 55ºF and Raining. I THRIVE in that weather. Not sure what that says about me.
Did I make this post?
Hermit w/ severe light sensitivity doesn’t like the sun. Wow. Didn’t see that one coming. What a plot twist.
I am very sorry about your injury, but you cannot really think that sunny days are that terrible. You can’t do much while it’s raining outside. Sunny days provide more of a reason to get fresh air, enjoying the nice breeze, and if you enjoy fishing and stuff, a sunny day is perfect. I agree that humidity is terrible, but don’t let that stop you. I’m sure they make sunglasses that will help with your eyes and with the sensitivity to sunlight. Keep an open mind because you never know. Something beautifully great can happen. Like meeting new people and making new friends, meeting your future spouse, and just enjoying the simple pleasures in life that we might take for granted. Anyway, I hope your days get better and that you have a healthy and speedy recovery from your injury. I wish you the best in life!
Take care!!
I kinda agree with you
A few days of sun and hot weather? Absolutely. That’s fine. I can tolerate that and enjoy it. It’s nice to see people out and about, relaxing, laughing etc
But anymore then that? No. I’m an Overcast Cool weather kinda guy. Never liked hot weather. It’s draining and tires you out. It makes you sweat.
I’ve also been in a really shitty mood the past couple of days, and I kind of think there is this unspoken truth that when the sun out, everyone should be positive, fun, vibrant, upbeat, light-hearted etc- or else you’re a buzzkill
Yep. I agree. I moved to Florida to help family and this sunny day shit fucking sucks.
Upvote because I live for the sunny days.
I love the way it feels, the way it looks, and my mood is just significantly higher by default. Outdoor seating for bottomless mimosa Brunch, riding my bike to the park, basketball, football, beaches, pools, Oh baby.
Agree with preferring the cloudy days, but come on, 15C is too cold for swimming, make it at least 25C.
Don’t like rain, though.
I like them when I’m on a beach or at a pool, but I haven’t walked recently due to how humid it is and how sweaty I get. I prefer cooler temps and rain if I’m not wanting to walk.
As a natural redhead, I’m inclined to agree. People fail to understand the misery of wearing long sleeves, or having to slather every inch of exposed skin in sunblock, only to discover you missed a spot. Hot sunny days are miserable. Give me an overcast autumn day any time!
You seem to be conflating “sunny” with “hot”, as well as “crowds”. Because it’s a beautiful, sunny, 68 degrees in Delaware right now – not hot. And there’s not another person in sight. Sounds like you don’t like people or heat, which are different things than sun.
I like going outside
Lack of sunny days makes you sadder.
It’s scientifically proved.
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and I love those beautiful gray skies with the sun struggling to creep through the occasional broken overcast spot.
I live in Florida now and these summer days when you sit in your car for 5 minutes and emerge like you just swam in the nearest retention pond.
It’s that freaking hot.
My favorite days are the days that look like a storm could happen at any minute. Gray and breezy. Whatever to the sun.
Upvoted bc unpopular
Ah yes, all those people get seasonal depression in the checks notes sunshine
This is the most confusing subreddit ever. I get brain farts when I have to upvote things that I dislike. Take my upvote.
I agree but I also live in the desert. I love the rainy, cold weather that doesn’t exist here.
People who can’t understand these kinds of things that are popular are honestly fascinating to me. It’s just like… basic empathy. Like, I can absolutely understand why a person with eye problems and light sensitivity would hate sunny days. I understand why people may prefer other seasons over the summer, especially in different climates than my own. But not being able to understand, even on a basic level, why popular things might be popular? Honestly I struggle with understanding that more than anything.
Like, some of these things are fairly easy to understand imo. For one, in places where rain is common enough, having a barbecue or any other outdoor event on a sunny day more or less guarantees it won’t be ruined by rain. There are a lot of outdoor activities that can be enjoyed in the rain, things involving fire tend to be pretty tough. And barring events where people are packed really tight, like concerts, the open air helps keep things cooler if anything. You think an outdoor BBQ is hot? Try taking those 20-30 people and shoving them all into a kitchen, dining room and living room in a house whose AC system is designed for a family of 4 not a group of 30, and then turn the oven, crockpot, and two stovetop burners on and see who feels cool then. Again some of this is climate dependent but with enough water and sunscreen I can spend a few hours here outdoors in the sun fairly easily, depending on what I’m doing. Quite a bit more of an ordeal to spend a few hours outside when the temp is sitting in single digits Fahrenheit before we even start talking about 20 mph winds and snow
And I get people who are truly introverts. And it’s gotta be frustrating living in a world that by and large caters to extroverts. But extroverts look at things like small talk and talking about social events differently than you do. It sounds like you look at work and think “Just gotta get through this and get it all done so I can get back to my comfort zone,” and so people chatting it up doesn’t help. But an extrovert might take the perspective of “Well, I have to be here anyways. Might as well make the most of it by forming friendships with the people I’m going to be around all day anyways, and that will make the time more enjoyable, and we can talk about things we look forward to so that the time we have to be here doesn’t drag along quite so miserably”
Agreed, sunlight always gives me headaches, and even with sunglasses you deal with oppressive heat. A nice cloudy cool day is the best for the outdoors.
I keep my room blacked out cause I get annoyed with how bright the world has to be sometimes.
🥴
I’ll say this after living in Norcal on and off for 30 yr, you can get sick of the sunshine. It’s like you feel like you always have to be outside doing something productive lol.
I work 9 hours a day in that godforsaken sun, couldn’t agree more
You’re a cornball
Since you have an injury, I feel like thats a valid reason. Other than that, I disagree wholeheartedly. I love hot sunny days! Mid-80s and I’ll still have my windows open. Its almost 90 right now and it’s think its great outside. Last year, we had an excessive heat advisory and I legit spent the entire day happily doing yard work.
I do live where it gets very humid, that part does suck though.
Swimming when its 60 out is crazy, I would absolutely freeze.
Neanderthal
A lot of people in Phoenix, myself included, get reverse seasonal depression when the heat hits (along with the never ending sun)
Hmm. This is a popular take, if you enjoy the rain that produces the forests.
Additionally, riding mountain bikes at high speed is much nicer with diffused light, instead of sharp direct light from the sun. Especially if the sunlight is creating shadows from the tree canopy.
Tangentially, the Vevo “Only Happy When it Rains” (by Garbage) has 36 million views. Missy Eliot’s “I Can’t Stan the Rain” has 35 million.
Your opinion is a million more popular.
And don’t forget the 24/7 lawnmower and weedwackers going off in your ears CONSTANTLY. ALL SUMMER LING EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK WAAARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHGGGGGGGH
I agree. The summer fucking sucks.
Agreed. I also throw up in direct sunlight so I think it makes sense for me.
Move to the PNW. Ive been here 18 months and am over it
Is your opinion that sunny days suck? Or that hot days suck? Your title says sunny days but a lot of your rant refers to heat. While related, they aren’t the same thing. It does sound like you hate both though, lol.
As someone who has lived in Colorado and San Diego, I couldn’t disagree more. And I also know very well that sunny does not necessarily mean uncomfortably hot.
As someone who lives in a state with 3rd most clear days, and I work outside. I agree that cloudy weather is a nice change to being sun-baked all day every day.
Move to Pittsburgh. You’re welcome.
Yea I prefer rainy days myself
I’ve got super sensitive eyes so I constantly need sunglasses if I’m outside in the sun – other than that? I fuckin’ dig it either way. Rainy days are good when I want to be lazy, sunny days are good when I want to be outside.
I’m kinda here with you.
I like sunny warm days for fishing, but other than that idc. I much prefer the feeling and smell of rainy days vs not.
I spend most of my time indoors anymore… only thing the weather effects anymore is how much my body hurts lol
I agree 100% except I prefer it sunny if I’m going swimming. I won’t let clouds and/or rain stop me from swimming though. I actually love swimming in a hard rain.
I mean it’s a fine opinion to have. I hate that I’m surrounded by people who share it and it’s certainly not a flex but it’s okay and valid.
how depressed are you mate?
I read the first sentence and instantly got angry.
Have an upvote.
The sun sucks, cloudy and rainy days for life, fuck anything above 70 degrees, wish it were 60 degrees forever
Lol yep…I hate everything that you like. My health and sanity are much better when it’s warm and sunny all the time and the cold/grey/dark makes me physically and mentally ill. Reason I’m moving from NY to California. i can’t fathom how people can dislike sunny warm weather.
I don’t think this is an unpopular opinion, I just think folks who like sunny days are very vocal about it and can be obnoxious. As a fair skinned, light eyed person from the northern United States I don’t particularly enjoy hot sunny days as constantly wearing sunscreen or having to wear sun glasses all the time is annoying, so I agree, but so do most of my friends back home and my fair complexioned in laws in the south. We have a few tan folks in the family who go on and on about the sun and laying out, their comments dominate our weather conversations, they’re they most likely to bring up the weather, but they’re minority opinion.
“And I do enjoy swimming in the rain, but I don’t do it because I know it can be risky lol.”
I agree with the post in general, but can someone explain this (or the joke) to me?
no I agree with you
A lot of comments about where you live and everything. I grew up in Las Vegas, NV so it was over 100 ° F most of the year, and it barely rained.
So yeah that could be a big part of it.
I totally agree with the heat part, I do not understand the love for the sticky heat either. But I love the sun cause it makes me happy. Those 65 degree days with the sun and the wind blowing a little are perfect.
I absolutely agree. My family all call me a vampire because of it. Oh well. Nothing better than a rainy l/dark/cloudy day imo.
“As if they can’t barbecue year round” dawg where I live it’s 50 or below for 80% of the year. My state on average gets 60 sunny days for the entire year. Nobody wants to hang out outside when its cold windy and rainy
Its literally a joke in my city that everyone goes inside in Novemeber and doesn’t come out until June. Do you live near the equator or something?
It can be sunny without being hot…
Let’s distinguish between hot days and sunny days. I hate hot days and I think most would agree. But who hates a sunny day when it’s in the 60’s or 70’s???
I agree, but because of the temperature, not the sunniness. My state gets to about 100 degrees in the summer with 80% humidity and it’s miserable.
But 70 degrees and sunny with low humidity? Let’s have an all-dayer outside.
I also love being outside winter days as well though.
TL;DR: fuck humidity
Try working outside in the Persian Gulf during the summer months. Then you can complain about hating the sun.
I agree with this wholeheartedly
I agree to a point. Scorching hot, bright as shit days where there’s no wind, just heat? Fuck that. Nice, sunny, breezy days? Hell yeah, best day ever.
