Hey everyone I’m looking for some advice, I have been renting from a realtor for the last 5 years and was recently told my house had been sold. I have never had issues with the owners or realtor and have always paid everything on time and never had any issues. They called me and verbally told me the house was sold a week after they were originally informed, which was about four days after I had signed my lease renewal for the next year and paid the month of July. I was gobsmacked and during this phone call he said that I was supposed to be notified on the 1st of July but wasn’t told until the 8th. So now they have officially sent me a lease termination paper and saying I need to be out within the first two weeks of August. I’m being told I was supposed to get some kind of 60 day notice? I was barely given 30 days! I’m not sure what’s the next course of action tbh and I’m a bit lost. What’s the best course of action? I was thinking about visiting my county courthouse and seeing what the law says but figured I’d see what Reddit had to say. Thanks in advance!

They can’t just terminate your lease, you get to live there for the next year. Unless the lease you signed has a clause in it saying that the lease can be terminated in the event of the sale. You need to read your lease. Does it have such a clause?
Like the other Redditor said – they cannot terminate your lease, especially without any sufficient notice unless otherwise stated in your agreement. it works both ways just like how renters are penalized for terminating their lease.
You may be able to carefully negotiate a huge cash for keys payout, depending on how desperate they are to end your lease (other commenters pointed out, the lease carries with the sale of the home).
