Terrible Job, Now What?

r/

So we had our bathroom fully renovated. The 2 guys that did everything did a HORRIBLE job. We noticed small things in the middle but didn’t think too much of it. Have had multiple companies come to fix issues. I’ll post the issues below. There was a major language barrier, which made the communication a little difficult. No we did not get a permit, nor do I think these guys are even licensed. Is this partially our fault, of course. But we’re new homeowners, had a leak & decided to go through with a full reno, with a company that had good reviews on Thumbtack. But what are our options? Should I simply send him a message with the several invoices we have piled up over the last couple months? Do I take it as far as taking it to court, or some sort of legal battle? Help.

• First company came to recaulk the entire shower & install new valves in the double vanity because they were dripping. They also had to remove the shower handle and put it back in because it was crooked, wrong screws were loose.
• plumber came to help with a sewer gas smell. He opened the wall to find an open pipe, not vented properly at all.
He then found a live wire in the wall, in which an electrician is on the way as we speak.
• we’ll need to hire someone to put up new drywall now.
• oh & also when they did the tile, 2 of the tiles were a completely different shade & we made them replace

My problem is l’m scared we are going to find so ma more problems, which in the end, I’m fine with as long as they are fixed. Location: NJ
