The 2002 movie DRUMLINE is great and makes me want to attend a HBCU football game.

r/

Yeah, I know the “drumming prodigy who can’t sight-read” twist is wildly implausible. Yeah, I know Nick Cannon hates my people. But the movie just hits in all the right places, and if I need to get pumped in the morning, I listen to the soundtrack.

I’m a white Jewish woman who doesn’t even like football, but I’d attend a game at an HBCU just for the bands. (Alas, I think the nearest one to me is two states away in Pennsylvania.)

    Nothing unpopular about this.

I’m not a movie buff, nor do I really care about drumming, but I love this movie. Not sure how unpopular this take is.

Don’t feel bad he doesn’t just hate Jews he extends his racism to Western Europeans and most non black cultures as well.

It is a great movie though. Most colleges (not just HbCUs) will have pretty amazing marching bands including the drum line unless they are D3 or a community college. There’s probably one near you.

I’ve never seen the movie, but I am a classically trained musician with nearly 20 years of professional experience. There is nothing wildly implausible about a prodigy not being able to sight read. Sight reading is a skill that takes years to develop, regardless of how much natural skill you have at your instrument. I know plenty of insanely talented musicians that absolutely shit the bed when it comes to sight reading.

Oh man I broke my DVD copy of this back in the day because I watched it so much.

This and ‘The Fighting Temptations’ used to be my go to comfort movies for a very long time.

One of my favorite movies of all time, and I just watched it again last night. Is this an unpopular opinion?? It’s one of the most quotable movies ever!!! (Maybe just for me because we watched it on every marching band bus trip). It’s iconic.

Rewatched this movie on a flight recently.

Great movie, super weird how good Cannon was but never had another great acting role after this film. The ending was a bit awkward.
