The yodel, vocal break, vocal flip, or whatever the fuck it’s called done by the likes of Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, lounge singers, Coldplay, and such is extremely annoying. Who wants to hear a cackling witch/warlock? These people suck at expressing emotion while singing and resort to this shit, and for some reason, a lot of people like it.
Be glad if you weren’t listening to music in the 90’s and early 00’s, which was the height of this trend.

I dunno I think you might have yodel envy zahmbay zaaahmbay
Thank you. That has always annoyed me, even being to varying degrees a fan of pretty much all of those artists. Such an odd affectation to have become a trend
Shakira Shakira.
In Zombie, at least, it’s a traditional vocal style for mourning called “keening”. It’s meant to express grief.
It used to be a unique feature that you’d hear as an embellishment or in particular styles and now it’s something every other gal tries to imitate. I agree, and I don’t find that it holds much emotional weight the way it’s used. It’s like Mariah Carey doing malismatic runs for no thematically evident reason mid-word except to show off.
Lets leave the Irish alone please.
Add Our Lady Peace to this list of vocal stylings that haven’t aged well.
Definitely unpopular in my opinion. My condolences for your music taste. Take my upvote.
