The Attack on Tylenol is Another Attack on Women

r/

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I am convinced this newest attack on Tylenol as a “cause of autism” is just another way to torture pregnant women. You know what you can’t take while pregnant? Advil (aka ibuprofen). Do you know what you can take? Tylenol (aka acetaminophen). So they take Tylenol away from pregnant women for pain relief and guess what? Then we just have to suffer!! And my guess is they will extend this to Tylenol use being “dangerous” any time, even if you aren’t pregnant or planning to get pregnant, so then they will have another way to shame women when they use well-known OTC meds to treat aches and pains. This very well may be dramatic but I can’t help but see every thing the right does as an attack on women because they hate us.

Entirely possible – but if I were to bet money – I would say they just chose a company to extort, and then a few days/weeks from now they’ll announce that the government will take 10-15% of all Tylenol income

  2. wizean Avatar

Yep, this is it. Next they are going to arm twist hospitals into not giving tylenols to women.

  3. timecapture Avatar

Don’t have kids. This world is shit.

  4. broncosandwrestling Avatar

I don’t think it’s personal, no. It’s not “just” an attack on women. That’s not better. They still don’t care that women are caught in the crossfire while they yell about autism

There’s plenty of hate to go around. They don’t just hate women. They hate trans folks, people of color, science

  5. Overwhelmed_sendhelp Avatar

Does anyone else see the irony? You can’t take Tylenol, it might cause autism. Take ibuprofen, which might cause miscarriage. You can’t have an abortion, but…

  6. CeilingCatProphet Avatar

Tylenol is OTC. You can take it regardless of what RFK says

  7. NectarineOk5419 Avatar

As an autistic woman, it’s so extremely frustrating to see this ridiculous situation unfolding. Women already go through enough during pregnancy, and are unable to use any pain relief. I seriously hope this isn’t the case, or isn’t used as an excuse to brush off pregnant women and their issues under the guise of fake panic and concern. Imagine being told you’re a bad mother who is potentially impacting your child’s mental health because you have clinical migraines and are unable to use your prescription, and now no last resort pain relief.

  8. vodeodeo55 Avatar

I immediately thought the same thing.

  9. stopworksorority Avatar

I think it’s mostly sending a message that anyone that needs ANY help whatsoever (special needs, social services, relief for chronic pain, eg anyone republicans see as a “drain” on the government) is to be silenced.

  10. ReplicantOrange Avatar

it’s so insane. i’m pregnant atm and people seem to have such opinions over my body. i got asked if im allowed to RUN. yes! i’m allowed to run! i also get headaches and paracetamol (i think that’s tylenol for you guys stateside) has been a saving grace. it makes me want to go eat a load of deli meat and sniff some soil out of spite

  11. DreadlyKnight Avatar

Falsely claiming there’s a link should be a felony unguarded by any immunities tbh. Just a senile man going off of an extremely small percentage of small studies showing the possibility of a link while ignoring the overwhelming majority

  12. the_cat_who_shatner Avatar

Yet another reason why is it just not safe to be pregnant in the United States. Glad I got rid of my tubes years ago. Fuck this fuck ass country.

    Thankyou exactly!!!

  14. Disastrous_Offer2270 Avatar

Autistic people have been around since time began, RFK Jr is determined to make people, especially women and children, as sick and in pain as possible.

  15. Buddhagrrl13 Avatar

There’s a higher causal link between in utero and early childhood exposure to air pollution, particularly from car exhaust, and autism. I’d bet money that we’re not going to hear a peep about that from this administration.

  16. machalynnn Avatar

100% they are going to use this to criminalize women. If anything goes wrong and you have tylenol in your system, expect to be charged.

  17. dontsayulove Avatar

why is FRK so obsessed with autistic ppl

  18. Surturius Avatar

no no, it’s just Tylenol, just take acetaminophen, apparently that’s safe

Please listen to your physicians and not these fucking clowns.

It was once believes that the more the mother suffers the happier the child will be.

Lots of men still believe this.

  21. Eli_1988 Avatar

I think that its even more nefarious.

If they can tie these conditions people are born with to personal failings of the person or their parents/mother, they can paint it as a moral/personal failure instead of a societal issue.

This means that “those people” are only like that because its “their fault” so they can then pull any funding or support and start treating them as people to get rid of or “solve”.

Anyone who cannot “be fixed” will be treated as such

  22. FionaTheFierce Avatar

The fact that they are using the name Tylenol rather than the actual name of the drug – Acetominophen – is very telling. This is an attack on a specific company, first and foremost – led by a parade of idiots, followed by an even larger parade of bigger idiots.

Acetominophen is extremely widely used – and necessary for a lot of people, not just pregnant women.

The administration is not at all concerned with protecting pregnant women, or basing anything on actual science. Probably close to 100% of women took Tylenol at some point in their life, and a very high percentage likely took it while pregnant.

  23. Xeltar Avatar

I would think RK would be attacking acetaminophen rather than Tylenol if that was the case. Harming women is probably the welcome side effect of his idiotic agenda rather than the primary reason he called out Tylenol.

  24. miraclewhipbelmont Avatar

I’m halfway surprised they’re not blaming autism on women voting while pregnant.

  25. Redm18 Avatar

    Of course it is 100%

I’m from the UK and I thought this was an old, debunked theory. Sad to see it’s making the rounds again.

  27. the_d00m_song Avatar

I didn’t take any pain medication while pregnant (upsets my stomach). Still ended up with an autistic child. This Tylenol attack is another BS form of control

  28. WoodpeckerGingivitis Avatar

Ffs I didn’t even know this was happening. Every single day is some fresh new bullshit.

  29. yet-another-redd Avatar

Funny they hate women, when their mere existence depends on one. “They” are the virus that needs to be neutralised. The world was supposed to get better. Not worse.

  30. miaiam14 Avatar

As an autistic woman, I’m pretty sure it’s another attack on autistic people. They wanted to make a registry of all of us, I’m pretty sure they have it out for us specifically on this one.

  31. adisharr Avatar

RFK’s voice goes along exactly with his IQ. I can’t stand listening to that fool more than 30 seconds.

  32. Connect_Reading9499 Avatar

Criminalizing and shaming pregnant people is becoming the norm and it’s scary.

  33. Valuable-limelesson Avatar

Oh absolutely. What’s one way to force women out of the workforce and get them to stay home “where they belong?” Make working while pregnant even more unbearable because there’s literally nothing you can take for the ridiculous amount of daily pain you’re in. Genius.

  34. emccm Avatar

I keep saying this, but the last election was first and foremost an anti women vote. It’s why young men came out in record numbers to vote for Trump.

  35. PreferenceFun154 Avatar

Better start stocking up while we still can! This is insane.

  36. MiddleKlutzy8568 Avatar

This is truly some redneck Scientology bs

  37. Bakkie Avatar

Acetaminophen first became available over the counter in the US in 1960 ( side note: Thalidomide was discovered to cause birth defects in 1961 and pulled that same year)

Even given the issues with autism diagnosis, it should be easy to compare the incidence of autism before and after 1960 to see if there is any correlation between the two.

Always remember that correlation is not the same as causation

Also, the two most important words in scientific experiments are, “That’s odd.”

  38. practical_junket Avatar

I’d hate to be a member of the Kenvue PR team right about now.

I’m 100% sure the marketing team did not have “Trump linking autism to Tylenol” in their Q3 SWOT analysis this year.

  39. JadedMacoroni867 Avatar

I didn’t take Tylenol while pregnant and I still had kids with autism!! (Consistent with family rates and intensity) does this disprove anything?

I know people here don’t fall for the drugs cause autism stuff but good grief it’s persistent!

  40. EngineeringRegret Avatar

My husband called from work today just to say he’d heard this.

I’m 11 weeks pregnant. I was about 6 weeks pregnant when I got sick with fever, then again around 9 weeks.

He was taken aback about my snippy response that, yes, I’d heard it, no, I don’t give much credit to anything RFK says, sure, I’ll look into it, but it’s just about the last thing pregnant women are allowed to take to ease suffering. Would he have preferred I let my fever run rampant when I wasn’t allowed anything else?

A good point I read against this is that disorders are genetic AND can be a correlation to taking painkillers. So, an ADHD mother is more likely to take Tylenol and to have a child with ADHD. Go figure.

  41. AndeeCreative Avatar

This will be used to make mothers scapegoats. They’ll blame the mother now.

  42. one_bean_hahahaha Avatar

It is also another way of shifting the blame back onto mothers, like it was before it was understood to be genetic. If a kid behaved a certain way, it was because of poor mothering. The vaccine link has been debunked, so now they’re going to put every last thing she consumes under the microscope.

Besides the focus on the pregnant women, I am also very worried about the obsession on autism overall. How long before forced institutionalization of even the most high-functioning individuals?

  43. Tiny_Scarcity_8846 Avatar

Always a woman thing for them ! I’ll tell you what as a woman with four healthy kids!
Go fuck your self! Weak men weak minds , making uneducated, unprofessional opinions. Bobby go find some roadkill to eat you moron!

  44. Spoonbills Avatar

r/auntienetwork is going to have to start stocking OTC painkillers. 🙄

  45. SeaGurl Avatar

My knee-jerk reaction was a desire to run out and stock up on Tylenol for the same reason you theorized – that this may be a way to remove tylenol

BUT they’re also promoting a “cure.” So what i think more likely is we will see a big push for getting those meds out there and pushed by medical professionals.

Removing tylenol doesn’t make them money… pushing meds that haven’t been shown to have mild benefits at best and no benefits at worst CAN

  46. _delete_yourself_ Avatar

“Studies have found that autism spectrum disorder (ASD) aggregates in families, and twin studies estimate the proportion of the phenotype variance due to genetic factors (heritability) to be about 90%.”

“There is no single “autism gene,” and it is not carried by just one parent. Instead, a combination of genetic factors from both parents and new, spontaneous mutations (de novo mutations) contribute to a child’s risk of developing autism. Recent research suggests fathers may play a more prominent genetic role, particularly older fathers, as sperm accumulate more mutations over time.”

    So Tylenol. k.

I’m so tired of this shit. 🙄

  48. Mini6cakes Avatar

I have also used Tylenol for all my teething babies who can’t sleep when their gums hurt. With out Tylenol we wouldn’t have slept for the better part of a year.

  49. mrputter99 Avatar

This is 100% what I think is happening.

  50. WorkPlaceSafe Avatar

This. Women suffer so much through pregnancy and Tylenol is the only thing most doctors give you permission to take, without it so many women will just have to suffer.

  51. drseahorse Avatar

1000%, there was even a push a couple of years back to link epidurals and autism and I was braced (I’m an anaesthetist) for having to counsel anxious, exhausted, in pain women about it, as if they didn’t have enough on their minds. Thankfully it didn’t seem to catch on back then but I wouldn’t be surprised if it makes a reappearance.

  52. slouchingninja Avatar

Hold up, isn’t autism caused by vaccines? Now it’s also caused by Tylenol, too? Wow

/s, in case it’s not obvious

Adding, I agree, it feels like an effort to take away pain control from women who deserve it

  53. drguyphd Avatar

I’m not a woman, but my fear now is that some rogue prosecutors will look to charge pregnant women or those who had miscarriages with a whole host of ridiculous charges.

  54. PrplePHIrevixxenstix Avatar

Also, it’s the only thing approved as a fever reducer during pregnancy. So they want women to suffer pain, delirium, and risk birth defects to the baby. And they wonder why the birth rate is declining. 🙄

  55. thecorgimom Avatar

The heroin addict has it in for otc drugs, yeah let that sink in the guy that shot street drugs into his veins is telling us that an OTC pain killer causes autism. Are we surprised that he wants to punish women?

“But he was also a serial philanderer who kept a journal chronicling his encounters and assigned numerical scores to women, even as he berated himself for his inability to control his actions.”

Notice how they say Tylenol but not acetaminophen.  Tylenol is a brand acetaminophen is the actual medicine.

  57. Frchewielouie Avatar

Sorry, I’m from Europe so I don’t mean to sound stupid but isn’t Tylenol just Paracetamol? And if so….is there actually a possibility of it being restricted?? That would be fucking nuts.

  58. Yoyo-Rae Avatar

Autism was first recognized and diagnosed in 1943. Tylenol was not available until 1955.

  59. KnittingforHouselves Avatar

Im so fed up with this. I had to argue with a pharmacist to get my doctor-approved antibiotics when I was pregnant. Yes im pretty sure uts worse for my baby if I get high reverse and possibly very bad complications, yes penicillin based antibiotics are completely fuckin safe!!

Any medicine that is not “tested on pregnant women” is automatically deemed problematic (as i was told by my doctor) even if there is no reason to assume problems or any documentation of them. Doctors have various levels of how problematic something is. Then other things are problematic even for certain risk groups. One of the meds that really help my chronic sinus issues can cause higher blood pressure. Good thing my usual problem is low blood pressure, right? My doctor agrees. The 20yo pharmacist does not. I had to send my husband to buy it or id have to fight her.

  60. throwaway_circus Avatar

You can trust the Trump administration, with 100% certainty, to offer up scapegoats, not solutions.

We have nanoplastics in our brains, our placentas, throughout our bodies. We have forever chemicals in our blood and tissue. We are exposed to pollution that affects sperm quality.

People are having children later, which affects sperm and egg quality.

If you look at findings about major public health or public policy issues, there are research avenues worth pursuing.

But the Trump administration only ever punches down. They will never challenge corporate polluters, look at genetic science, or enforce environmental and food safety regs. Never take a real look at solutions or answers that would cost their donors.

  61. MinimalYogi27 Avatar

Growing up evangelical Christian, I was told that women suffer during pregnancy and childbirth as punishment for Eve’s original sin. I genuinely believe this attack on Tylenol is because Christian nationalists believe women should suffer. They want us to suffer, they believe it is our divine punishment 🫠

  62. Mirenithil Avatar

My takeaway is that it’s not ever worth the risk to get pregnant, because everything and anything WILL be held against you.

  63. Impulsespeed37 Avatar

The Tylenol link has already been debunked. No dose response curve found, and analysis using sibling blinding also showed nothing. Finally, yes it is an attack on women as it has been shown to be safe and effective for pregnant women and it’s one of the few, so they want to take it away.

  64. Maevalyn Avatar

There isn’t even anything wrong with being autistic, as it would have had tremendous advantages before laissez faire capitalism. Same with ADHD. The reason it’s a “disorder” is because we have created a society that only benefits those within the norm / majority. Any advantages outside the established order are not utilised. This is not *JUST* an attack on women, but reinforcing the demonisation of neurodivergence.

  65. fundip12 Avatar

tylenol was created in the 50s.

  66. l00koverthere1 Avatar

I think it’s pretty safe to assume malice on the part of this administration in everything they do.

  67. Itsmejustinyaboy Avatar

It follows the long trend of blaming mothers for mental health diagnoses as well. Not that long ago schizophrenia was recognized as coming from the “cold mother”. They’d prefer to blame vulnerable populations than support them. Science is disregarded if it doesn’t support profits.

  68. TrickHistorian4400 Avatar

Yet they complain why we don’t want to have kids

  69. JeorgyFruits Avatar

My biggest hangup is the fearmongering.

“If you take TYLENOL, you’re choosing your own comfort over the possibility that your kid will wind up with AUTISM!”

Not only is it shaming women for seeking some kind of relief during 9 months of mild discomfort to literal agony, but it is teaching them to fear autism and the possibility of being “stuck” with a kid with autism.

    It’s sickening.

RFK Jr. needs to take his personal gripe with autism to a therapist.

  70. grehgunner Avatar

“40% of mothers who have kids with autism think their kids were damaged by vaccines, and the group of people who said we should believe all women aren’t listening to them.” For fucks sake. How insulting is this shit

  71. Immortan-Valkyrie90 Avatar

I also believe this is a grift to short Johnson and Johnson stock before they announce some new version of Tylenol or some shit

  72. LtDinglehopper Avatar

I am 5 months pregnant and am taking a low dose of tylenol every day to make sure my blood pressure stays good throughout my pregnancy. I was instructed by my doctor to do this, and I believe in her expertise.

The fact that, theoretically, I could be labeled as a “bad mother” for this makes me so sad and angry. And I’m lucky enough to have not needed to take this medication (yet) to give me relief from pain. Fuck RFK Jr. and fuck the Trump administration.

  73. Bright-Dependent6339 Avatar

i’m surprised they went with Tylenol, i would have guess they’d say proximity to Mexicans or pride flags or some shit like that.

  74. st_heron Avatar

100%, they’ve banned abortions and they now want to ban painkillers while pregnant, it’s sick how much they want to hurt women

  75. SlickFrog Avatar

YUP that’s exactly how it reads to me. Someone somewhere saw a tenuous study and ran with it: now autism gets blamed on moms for taking common pain relief, and suddenly pregnant women are left to suffer. It feels personal, like another way to police women’s bodies and shame them for doing something as normal as managing pain. this looks like yet another layer of control aimed at women.
