The Black Parade is the worst my chemical romance album

r/

not only that but i’d say it’s just okay at best and it doesn’t even sound like a my chem album it just sounds like they tried to make a dramatic rock opera with tons of influences from other bands that they imo kinda lost what they should sound like and the album itself just doesn’t jive with me. In contrary Bullets is their best work to date it actually feels like there’s so much more raw emotion and i prefer it lyrically, sonically, and conceptually it has that nice post hardcore sound that i really like and it reminds me of other great bands i like (Thursday, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, The Used, Senses Fail). While the Black parade i appreciate the attempt of making something different just doesn’t strike me as particularly interesting nor do i feel it was executed as well as it could’ve been in comparison to every other album.

Three Cheers is the better album

The sound that most people think of when they think of MCR is “The Black Parade.” If someone says they like MCR…they usually mean they like The Black Parade.

I don’t think I’ve really dove into the catalogue but in my experiences with music (especially considering I’m a Linkin Park fan and we have this debate all the time) the only people who know what a band “should sound like” is the band itself.

Whether you like the album or not there is no “should” in art.

are you aware Danger Days exists?

  8. Topher_McG0pher Avatar

    Worse than Danger Days??

  9. Blasberry80 Avatar

Doesn’t sound like MCR yet is their lost iconic sound? Ight

  10. Pinktiger11 Avatar

Is it everyone’s favorite? Of course not. Is it my favorite? Nope. But it is, from an objective point of view in terms of music, not their worst

Finally a real unpopular opinion. Upvoted twice.

    This guy listens to NANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANA

    and thinks “mmm, peak MCR”

  13. Angry-brady Avatar

It sounds like that because that’s what they did.

  14. sweetdancingjehovah Avatar

Uhhhh… Bullets was recorded in an attic.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s raw, and awesome, and I love it. But it is BY FAR their worst album.

  15. AT1787 Avatar

You rank Danger Days and Fabulous Killjoys better than The Black Parade?

Edit: Since this has come up several times on the comment section, I’d love to hear why you think Black Parade is worse than Danger Days. Planetary (GO!) is probably one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard.

  16. RugDougCometh Avatar

It’s too unpopular, shut it down

(lol it’s obviously danger days tho)

  17. kawaiisenpaixx Avatar

    Definitely unpopular. Good job.

  18. grandmasterPRA Avatar

Danger Days is easily the worst. I hate the black parade song but the rest of that album is awesome. So is the Three Cheers album. Just depends what mood I’m in.

  19. Rfg711 Avatar

They only have 4 albums and each one has a fairly distinct sound. There is no “MCR sound” outside of the commonalities between those 4 albums.

  20. Iamnothuman77 Avatar

i like a lot of the black parade but i agree that bullets and three cheers are both better. i can’t say it’s worse than danger days though

  21. Ok_Monitor4492 Avatar

“”I hate the thing everyone loves because I’m different” vibes.

Black Parade is the only MCR album I can listen to that doesn’t make my ears bleed

  22. dionisiodiosde Avatar

I bought you bullets, it’s the one for me

  23. Trevor03 Avatar

This is definitely unpopular. Black Parade and Three Cheers are clearly leagues above Danger and Bullets.

I shudder to hear your opinions on the senses fail discography

  25. ring_tailed Avatar

You really like danger days better? For me its three cheers (love the breakneck pace and chaos), black parade (just solid), bullets (feels fine just haven’t found their sound yet) and the danger days is just ??? I like some tracks but its not really my cup of tea

  26. shadowmonk13 Avatar

What are you talking about, mcr has never had a bad album

Also what’s with all the hate on danger days? it was a good album!

  27. Arkhangelzk Avatar

This is so unpopular I’m tempted to block you lol, well done

  28. Diggley1992 Avatar

    This is unpopular?

It literally has welcome to the black parade, the worst emo song of all time.

Pretty safe to say it’s their worst album.

  29. Jadefeather12 Avatar

Aaahhhg i just love Mama so much though

    Three Cheers is great too!

I should actually listen to Bullets for once

  30. i_ata_starfish-twice Avatar

Goddam. This is truly the worst take I’ve ever seen on the internet. Take my upvote. Or downvote. Not sure if you’re supposed to up or down unpopular opinions

  31. TheArmed501st Avatar

I read a comment years ago that black parade and lost it all by Black Veil Brides was made together or something. Or BVB made lost it all after using TBP, or the other way around. I don’t remember. If thats the case well its going to be dramatic

  32. Mambo_Poa09 Avatar

I assumed that was their only album 🤷🏼

  33. sweetdreamsaremeth Avatar

If you have the time, im curious to see what you’d rank each song out of ten? I genuinely can only think of one song i dont like at all (sleep), and maybe teenagers would score low, but that’s it.

  34. CoonTang3975 Avatar

They had other albums?! 🤣 Thought they were a one and done.

  35. ITSV_167 Avatar

Every album by MCR is horrible because they make garbage music

  37. UnfairFee4859 Avatar

Bullets and Three Cheers are my favorites, DD is the worst for me. TBP is just whatever.

I often see these young kids who say DD is their favorite, and then theyll say something about how they could never get into Bullets. They have so little respect for it, sort of alluding that it was a half-assed little project just because it doesn’t have that production sheen (which actually makes it even better. It HAS to be dirty like that, you clean it up and put the sheen on it and it’s not the same album or mood or message. It’s a weird point to even make about a rock band. I want my music to sound like it was recorded in a toilet lol). But I think most music fans who are into post-hardcore or post-punk appreciate it. And I realized it’s because these kids don’t listen to Fugazi or Drive Like Jehu or go to house shows, they are listening to Paramore and Green Day and spending $1000 on arena tickets. Their entire jumping-off point is just not rooted in the same place that the Jersey scene was rooted in when MCR first came out. They don’t have the same context and they don’t have the same palette.

I’m not knocking it, people come to discover artists from all different avenues and it’s cool when we meet in the middle and connect about the same band. But it’s just hard for me to understand because when I was growing up, if you were a music fan and trying to learn more and were a big nerd about it lol, then at some point you were going to get your hands on a Rites of Spring album lol. Bullets fits in the chronology and the dismissiveness about it hurts my soul. And then Three Cheers is one of the only albums born of this zeitgeist to ever do something truly new, most bands today are still copying the same early influences and not adding much to it. Three Cheers is genre-defining and truly special.
