I’d say they have a lot more talent than Ellen.

  5. Fantastic-Active8930 Avatar

    Spot on… they’re awful

  6. Ok_Cantaloupe_7423 Avatar

Ellen created her show because the front runner of the show she was in before blew their head off?

Wow, didn’t know they “rose the same”

Stacked Actors is a fuckin’ jam.

  8. delifte Avatar

This isn’t the first time he’s done all this shit though, like he did it in the mid to late 90’s too, right around the time Ellen came out, so people who have been long term fans already knew.

  9. Dinosaucers_ Avatar

I’ll take your word for it, I don’t watch Ellen.

I separate the art from the artist. So i have no idea what issues there are with foo fighters and honestly dont really care to know. I enjoy their music

    Super edgy and timely take.

  16. Robin_Gr Avatar

I honestly think cheating celebrities, particularly touring musicians are probably way more common than anyone will admit. It wasn’t really a shocking story to me. And I think they have more good songs than there were good episodes of that show. So I’d have to disagree.

  17. Ok-Call-4805 Avatar

Dave Grohl made a mistake during an extremely traumatic period of his life. That doesn’t make him a bad person.

  18. BeigeAndConfused Avatar

The Foo Fighters are unironically terrible, and the fact that they are spoken in the same breath as actual good classic rock bands is pathetic.

  19. yoursweetlord70 Avatar

If you refuse to listen to rock music recorded by people who have been unfaithful in a relationship, you’re just refusing to listen to all rock music

  20. Electrical_Catch9231 Avatar

No. Foo Fighters are the American Nickelback of rock bands.

  21. MyPhantomAccount Avatar

I think the fact they were AIDS deniers is a bit more troublesome

  22. BeaAurthursDick Avatar

I like the band but hate the music. The guitars sound so sterile and I don’t like Dave’s singing voice but Wheels is a good song and I like that one a bit.

  25. Striking_Day_4077 Avatar

I thought because they were both bland. Ok dude..

  26. lucaskywalker Avatar

Nope sorry. Just cheating on his partner does not take away from all the nice things he did. It sucks, but good people do shitty things all the time.

  27. JackieTree89 Avatar

Dave isn’t perfect, but is still a good person in a lot of ways. That’s his family’s business. I like him but I’ve never really liked the Foo Fighters. I respect them, but not my cup of tea. I like him more than the band.

  28. vagina_candle Avatar

I’m surprised this low effort shitpost hasn’t been removed by the mods yet.

I’m all for people shitting on bands they don’t like, but at least put a little bit of effort into it.

  29. guyincognito60 Avatar

Yeah I don’t care that much that he has skeletons in his closet, I just think their music sucks. Their first album was great but then they went the way of U2 and just started crapping out lazy pop rock.

  30. fyrefestival_bot Avatar

What is hate about the Foo Fighters is how safe they are. Aside from a few of their popular hits, they are the OPPOSITE of what Dave was doing in Nirvana. Kurt and Dave went against the grain in Nirvana.

  31. hopseankins Avatar

I didn’t realize they abused their roadies.

  32. Eroom2013 Avatar

Jesuse Christ, don’t do any deep dives on your favourite rock stars of the 60’s & 70’s. If cheating on a spouse makes them not a great person, wait until you find out who they slept with.

  35. Abyss96 Avatar

Okay, but most musicians, not just rockstars, aren’t “the great person they pretend to be”. Hell, the same could be said for anyone, really

  36. BuckTomato Avatar

I can’t distinguish Foo Fighters from Nickelback. Same generic FM rock slop.

  37. wasgoinonnn Avatar

Bullshit. Dave isn’t anything like Ellen, but he is a rockstar who has one “sex scandal” that has nothing to do with you, so deal with it, or move on and don’t worry about it.

  38. LonelyCakeEater Avatar

Saw them open for RHCP back on the Californication tour. They put on a hell of a show

  39. NoContextCarl Avatar

To somewhat put it in perspective both his mother and drummer of 20+ years died a few years back. And while I’m not saying this as an excuse, but obviously this had some effect on him. Having not only an affair but fathering a child outside of marriage is a huge slip up, especially for a guy who’s likely lived through several decades of groupies and should know better by now. Also, hiring a hugely respected drummer who’s been involved in countless bands and then firing him out of nowhere after 2 years was a bit off the rails too.

Obviously the guy has his flaws and the writings been on the wall for many years now…he’s cheated on numerous girlfriends, divorced once already. His marriage seemingly was strong, but old habits die hard.

Also, his dealings with his band hasn’t been stellar either. He recruits a drummer from basically an indie band to join FF only to realize he isn’t isn’t some stadium ready drummer with tons of experience. They lose Pat Smear, Dave replaces him with a friend. Dave realizes again he’s hired the wrong person and fires them. Then most recently dumping Josh Freese, who literally has all the experience and qualifications. Granted, it’s his show but obviously he’s not great at recruiting others to work with.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Dave in Nirvana and early FF. Small gigs, fun and carefree but those days are definitely gone.

  40. calmcatman Avatar

I’m sure even Dave Grohl has admitted to this

  41. Nasty_Tricks69 Avatar

Still made better music than Nirvana

  42. RunningSB Avatar

Yeah, just a real middle of the road, bang average rock band. People who love their music are normally pretty simple

  43. whyteout Avatar

Although it seems to have mostly been scrubbed from Wikipedia, the Foo Fighters promoted AIDs/HIV denialism for a really long time, and likely contributed directly to people dying from AIDs.
    (
-still mentioned briefly here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foo_Fighters#There_Is_Nothing_Left_to_Lose_(1998%E2%80%932001) )

So if anything, they’re probably worse than Ellen.

I dont know if dave grohl pretended to be a good guy, we just thought that because he hadnt had a scandal.

  48. danSTILLtheman Avatar

I just can’t get into their music, they have some catchy songs but it feels like safe generic rock to me. Not something I ever think I’ll listen to regularly

  49. beansntoast21 Avatar

    Well done.

  55. Maxhousen Avatar

    Great music, though.

  56. BlackDog5287 Avatar

My only gripe with the band is that the music is very bland to me. People claim Grohl is some sort of musical genius, when it’s really just 90% boring chord rock and yelling.

  57. No-Profession422 Avatar

    Very generic stuff.

  58. Moviefan92 Avatar

They have five great records imo (Self titled, The Colour and The Shape, There Is Nothing Left To Lose, Wasting Light, and But Here We Are) and the rest of their records are mid to not to great. They’re a great live band and Grohl’s documentaries are great! I’ve definitely soured a bit on Dave after the cheating stuff and firing Josh Freese outta nowhere, but I still like the Foo’s! Just kinda wish they would’ve hung it up after Taylor passed though tbh.

  59. skazai Avatar

Lol, “pretend to be”? What was Dave Grohl doing to pretend to be someone he wasn’t? He owned up to it immediately, sure it was a shitty thing to do but like, do you expect anyone in the public eye to just immediately announce their misdeeds as soon as they commit them?

  60. Earth-Tiny Avatar

This was funny, not gonna lie

All that 90s grunge is overrated. Dave’s always got on my nerves. Not surprised he’s as big of a shit as the rest of us. Some even say, a bigger shit.

  65. the_Sauce_guy27 Avatar

Nah f that. Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters rock🤘🏼seeing them live in Pensacola Florida along side Pearl Jam was the greatest 2 nights iv ever had at a gig.

    gif

  66. NudieNovakaine Avatar

My buddies and I used to joke around that Dave was the one who did Kurt in. Since people were always blaming Courtney with their conspiracy theories, we went the other direction.

  67. PhilipTPA Avatar

I’ve listened to all of their music and can’t find anything about the ‘leader’ pretending to be anyone other than that one song where he says he’s the ‘great pretender.’ So, not sure what relevance any of this has. My experience is that they show up on time and ready to play for their concerts, they put on a great show and then they leave. Their records are recorded properly, they don’t seem to have any unusual gaps in the recording or missed sections so I feel as though I got my money’s worth. Kinda feel that’s what I’m paying for so I’m a satisfied customer.

  68. scottdiver67 Avatar

And they represent the very middle of the middle of the road. The FF’s are “hard/alt” rock for people who don’t like music.

  69. thelingererer Avatar

I always looked upon Dave Grohl as a phony opportunist capitalizing on Kurt Cobain’s legacy. Truth is the Foo Fighters are just the kind of garbage anthemic band that Kurt Cobain would hate. Just boring bland middle of the road music cosplaying as rock and roll.

  70. Ok_Chipmunk_7066 Avatar

Somebody once described them to me as the most middling rock band and definition of generic rock music, and they are right.

I can’t argue, it’s not necessarily a bad thing, they are very good at writing a radio rock song.

  71. Negativefalsehoods Avatar

Meh, the Foo Fighters have been around a LONG time and have had success. They are fine IMO.

  72. SwitchCompetitive906 Avatar

I thought you were going to say because they are mediocre artists who play to the lowest common denominator, but ok.

A true unpopular opinion might be: Human beings are not designed to be 100% faithful monogamists, so it quite odd to judge someone with a veritable buffet of options for straying outside their marriage.

  73. Arkhangelzk Avatar

I like color and the shape and nothing left to lose, but nothing they’ve done since really hits for me

I just think they’re a band that peaked decades ago and they’re now in the coasting part of their career

  74. Sea2Chi Avatar

I was annoyed with him this round because I’d just finished reading his book and he came of as such a good natured family man. He gushes about his kids and goes on and on about how much he loves them. It was only after the news that he cheated came out that I realized that while his kids got a lot of page space, his wives, both current and ex did not.

I feel like the comparison with Ellen is a bit unfair because from the sounds of it, she got enjoyment from tormenting people. I feel like with Dave though, he’s a cool person, he’s generous with his time, he tries to support good causes, and he’s not monogamous.

How much he discussed non-monogamy with his wife is anyone’s guess. But his first marriage ended because of him cheating. So… I’m guessing there had to be some level of “Don’t do anything public, don’t bring anyone or anything home.”

That said, when it comes to shitty rockstar behavior, cheating is pretty low on the scale of things that regularly make the news.

  75. Dr__Mantis Avatar

Is this unpopular? I always thought it was corporate car commercial rock and never understood why Reddit loved Dave Grohl

  76. zlatanmangeshkar Avatar

FF come over as a rock band designed by committee. Inoffensive, AOR for IT Managers who wear stonewash jeans at the weekends. Fine if that’s your bag, but it’s not for me

  77. Imperial_TIE_Pilot Avatar

There’s a difference of cheating and being a generally shitty person.

  78. affidavid Avatar

You should read Dave Grohl’s book. Hes actually a pretty cool guy, and obviously he is a rock legend. So he cheated on his wife, sucks for his wife and kids, but doesn’t affect the music he created and the impact of his work. Cool guy, but like everyone else he isn’t perfect.

  79. slavMcdoodle Avatar

I would say that they are more alike in that their creative output sucks.

  80. BoyWonder2066 Avatar

Very unpopular opinion you have there sir

  81. TheQuadBlazer Avatar

    Are you trolling for upvotes?

    You got mine.

  82. Sw0ldem0rt Avatar

Cheating sucks, but compared to other rock stars out there he’s still pretty damn clean. I mean, we have Anthony “Statutory Rapist” Kiedis out here still making money.

  83. AuldTriangle79 Avatar

I hard disagree, the Foo Fighters do so much charity work that you wouldn’t know about. Like so much. Like yeah Dave was a dick to his family it doesn’t erase years of working hard behind the scenes without publicizing it. I only know because my friends son had cancer when they came by the hospital with no cameras. The no cameras was part of the deal.

  84. Fr0st3dcl0ud5 Avatar

As far as I can tell, Grohl has taken responsibility for himself, his actions and his family. He didn’t have to say anything about anything but has been very upfront. He seems to be dealing with his shit which is more than most can say.

  85. IgetAllnumb86 Avatar

I think it’s unpopular to have any opinions at all on foo fighters and Ellen in 2025. Like….why are you thinking about this?

  86. nohumanape Avatar

Wait, how is Dave not a great dude? I’ve actually hung out with him. He’s one of the nicest famous people I’ve ever met (and I’ve met a lot of them).

  87. alex_munroe Avatar

Oh joy it’s another take that cannot believe that all people are capable of both large degrees of good and bad, and as soon as they do any bad, all of their good is discounted and they simple must be cancelled.

Honestly I can’t tell what I’m over more, the rising lack of naunce where everyobe must be classified as morally black or white, or celebrity hero worship. People are just people and if you don’t condemn them it doesn’t automatically mean you condone them either.

  88. devilmaskrascal Avatar

Honestly I haven’t enjoyed much since they became a band. They were one of the coolest when it was just Dave on the debut. Then they became…safe arena rock for dads.

  89. ducati1011 Avatar

I have no opinion on their music and I disagree by a lot, this is a very unpopular opinion. You get an upvote.

  90. meriadoc_brandyabuck Avatar

I’m much more interested in discussing why the music is mostly boring and gutless post-“There Is Nothing Left to Lose” than in dissecting his personal life.

A famous rockstar having extramarital sex is maybe the least surprising thing in the world.

  91. hahabanero Avatar

Yeah, no. Dave Grohl cheating on his wife doesn’t equate to all the horrible shit that Ellen does. And the band didn’t build their identity and brand around being “the nice band” while everyone behind the scenes got abused by them. That’s all Ellen.

  92. Fritanga5lyfe Avatar

    What’s Nickelback then?

  93. MotherTeresaOnlyfans Avatar

Just wait until you learn about the band’s long history of AIDS denialism.

  94. LionBig1760 Avatar

Its a sad, sad state of existence when Dave Grohl is held accountable for having an affair, and tge president can fuck a pornstar, pay her hush money, then get elected president two times.

We’re outraged over the wrong thing. Dave Grohl? Cone the fuck on. Hes a rock star, not your third grade teacher.

  95. Hey_Giant_Loser Avatar

Foo Fighters are a biggest most popular and and most successful band of the last 20 years.
Ellen really was never any of these things. Not even by Daytime TV standards. Oprah will always outrank her. Rosie Outranks her. The View Outranks her. Fucking Days of Our Lives Outranks her. So, no.

  96. Han_Ominous Avatar

I don’t understand why people care so much about the sex life of a rockstar. He’s not the pope, he’s a normal ass human being with an abnormal job. Don’t put him on a pedestal. If you like his music, listen to it. If you don’t, move on.

  97. IamjustanElk Avatar

Are we really canceling musicians for infidelity now? The foo fighters are held to a higher standard than the vast majority of our politicians lmao

  98. coolmonkeyd Avatar

I kinda understand the disappointment but nothing with the Foo’s or Dave really makes me hate them…an affair is personally shitty but unless it’s a repeated pattern of behavior….I don’t see it as the sign of a troubling antisocial personality disorder, I think the Foo’s have a good reputation for a reason….I think Dave handled it as well as can be expected….

As far as firing their drummer, I don’t think that’s actually a sign of anything bad…..when you’re making any kind of art there’s a specific outcome you want, and if someone can’t help you with that, it has very little to do with them being good enough as a person or even how skilled they are but how well they grasp what your trying to do…good collaboration is like someone reading your mind, it’s not easy to come by….so without anything thing else to go on I just assume Scott and the band didn’t jell musically when it came to writing new songs the same thing with William.
    It’s just creative differences ….

  99. ladymouserat Avatar

I don’t care about his sex life. I just hate how stupid expensive their tickets are

  100. AccomplishedSuccess0 Avatar

I’ve hated the foo fighters since they were nirvana! Hahaha. Nirvana was okay but they were definitely the worst of the big grunge bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. All of which were way better than nirvana, it isn’t even close. IMHO at least.

  101. mannypdesign Avatar

Oh no, somebody just found out rockstars are assholes.

  102. Nick_Fotiu_Is_God Avatar

  105. Quarter_Shot Avatar

Dave Grohl? What’d he do, I thought he was fairly unproblematic?!

Edit: from reading other comments, I guess he cheated.

I grew up on pop punk bands, so, while cheating on his wife isn’t great, it’s not nearly as bad as I was expecting
