I work in a hospital as a housekeeper, have only been working there for several months now, and I just found out about this recurring problem. Apparently when it rains heavily it causes a toilet to overflow within the mortuary. Nasty water floods the bathroom it’s in, as well as the adjoining room, the office space connected to it, and even into the hallway. Most concerning however is the water that makes it’s way into the cooler where the deceased are stored. My supervisor, who had me and another pair of workers help clean up the mess, informed me that this is an issue that has persisted since even before she began working there a few years ago. She and others have asked countless times to the higher-ups to fix this issue, but for whatever reason nothing has come of it. I’m new, in a lowly position, I don’t fully understand how this kind of stuff gets taken care of, and I’m not well-versed in the legality of it all, but I want to do something. My supervisor was incredibly angry that this happened/continues to happen, and a coworker of mine who was helping to clean up the mess broke down in tears thanks to the sight and smell of the bodies in the cooler, and their supposed desecration. I’m fairly positive that if the families of those in the cooler right now were made aware of this they’d likely sue on the grounds of negligence. Again, I don’t know the best course of action to take, so I’d really appreciate some advice on how to proceed. Who should I talk to? How can I make upper management take this more seriously and to finally take action?
Also, I’m on mobile so sorry if the formatting is rough.
