Every movie recycles the same boring overused trope of : ““Humans visit dinosaur island → dinosaurs escape → chaos → we learned nothing → repeat.”
The dinosaurs are so paleontologically inaccurate on purpose and set back public understanding of dinosaurs by DECADES. The directors made dilophosaurs able to ‘spit’ venom and a frill to make it look ‘cooler’ and massively oversized velociraptor because apparently it was too ‘small and pathetic’ The carnivores are portrayed as blood hungry killing machines and the herbivores are shown as sacks of meat that cant defend them selves and are only there to be eaten. The whole idea of ‘hybrids’ could have been well done but they botched it so badly. The indo rex can turn invisible, hide its heat signature, is super intelligent, is super strong, kills for fun and can walk of multiple rockets. Its just a weird blend of over the top abilities that just makes it uninteresting. some of the designs are also down right horrific ( the d rex). This series would make any palaeontologist role in their grave.
All the movies after the first are super kid friendly. Dinosaurs arent killing machienes but when they do kill it is gorey. just like any animal today.
Most characters are 2 dimensional ,uninteresting and lack any change throughout the whole series. For Example : Owen and Claire, whose personalities are basically “man who likes raptors” and “woman who learns to care about kids.” Riveting. The corporate villains are also cartoonishly dumb.
Only the first movie paced itself well. It has a nice amount of suspense and is by far the best movie. The first movie made your hold your breathe in the raptor kitchen scene. Now it’s constant loud music, explosions, and CGI dinosaur WWE fights. No tension, no pacing. The only decent movie in the whole series is the first one. They also use the original characters horrible. When the originals come back in Dominion, they’re just nostalgia bait with nothing meaningful to it.
Then the final movie (dominion) is about human clones and locust swarms that eat all the food in the world, starving loads of people. Just random and uninteresting for a franchise like this.
The movies are based of Michael Crichtons original novel, witch are a lot better and defenatly worth a read. Its just another terrible adaptation of something good.

The problem is that you are expecting some cinematic masterpiece rather than “WOW AWESOME DINOSAURS IN REAL LIFE!”
Wait they are 2 different franchises?
Naturally. As are the thousands of exorcist spin offs and on and on it goes…
Everything in Hollywood is a remake, stagnant, and we all despise them.
The problem is that they are too kid friendly.
First one was fine, then as time passes they need to find increasingly contrived ways of putting humans and dinosaurs in the same place.
Jurassic World was ok as a reboot as it had that newer element of “now we have a working park”, but then it’s back on that slippery downhill slope from there.
They’re fun monster movies. We’re not expecting a Discovery channel special
Parts of this are fair but the majority just seems like repeating common sentiments without any logic behind them.
The inaccuracies are pretty easily explainable by the fact that these aren’t supposed to be actual dinosaurs, they’re genetically engineered clones with their DNA filled in with other animals. This is thoroughly addressed in the books and films alike with lines about how they’d look much different if the genome was pure. Also not sure what films you’re watching regarding that comment on the herbivores. There’s plenty of parts where herbivores fight back, whether it’s the breakout in part 2 or the ankylosaurus in part 4 or the sinoceratops in 5 or the nasutoceratops in big rock, etc.
Using the two admittedly weaker examples of characterization in the series and applying them to everyone is also disingenuous. The original trilogy had lots of rich characterization, and plenty of the secondary characters in the newer films do too. And you can hardly call the reuse of the old characters nostalgia bait when they’re pretty central to the plot of the film. They’re not just showing up for cameos they’re driving the story.
This isn’t an unpopular opinion, or at least not that I’ve seen. The fairly common thought is the first one is good and the rest are middling to bad.
I’m with you! After learning there was only two books, and really enjoying them, it’s wild the direction the series went in. I feel like they did well enough with part 1 and should have stopped it after finishing the arc.
Had they gone the route of making proper monster movies in the vein of Pacific Rim, it would have been the spectacular kid friendly franchi$e they always wanted. Le sigh.
The only I genuinely like is the original.
These have just become the movies you take your seven year old cousin who loves dinosaurs to go see and then you forget about it right after
the first one is perhaps the greatest popcorn movie of all time. Every single one of the sequels is complete dogshit.
Keep in mind that paleontologists’ understanding of dinosaurs has changed a lot over the last few decades, so holding JP accountable for not being accurate to more recent discoveries is unfair. Regarding the inaccuracies that were known at that time, yes they made creative reimaginings to make them more frightening. In JW, Henry Wu even calls it out in regards to the indominus.
For everything else, it’s clear your issues are with the JW movies and not JP. So Keep it out your mouth.
That’s life buddy.
Everything is a copy of something.
I agree that at least for me the first movie is by far the best, though i quite like the JP3. I know the book does make it clear Hammond and his scientists are not interested in accurate portrayal of the dinosaurs but want “theme park monsters” as Grant says. I think they mention the same in the movie but not as clearly stated.
You’re right that velociraptors are roughly the size of a chicken (probably would still be scary in a pack), It is a shame there is the Deinonychus which actually a similar size and shape to the movie velociraptors, but I must admit Velociraptor does sound cooler.
I more or less agree. Watched the new movie last night and it felt very familiar. I did not care about any of the characters. It wasn’t a bad movie, it was just kind of flat. Definitely had a “follow the formula” feel and of course, like every rehash today, included a cute baby creature (every f’n movie does this nowadays). Even the attempts at humor were very blatant and didn’t really compliment the tension much.
First movie – one of my favorites ever. It’s a perfect movie.
You guys have such high standards for a movie, were most of the viewers just wanna see dinosaurs eating people.
The first Jurassic Park was good, and the first Jurassic World was good.
I was never a fan of the original either. I find it overrated af.
The worst part about this is it’s not even an unpopular opinion
Don’t care, Dinosaurs go roar on big screen. Me like.
Bad science has been part of the movies since the beginnings of film. According to Jurassic World, the evil GMO dinosaur Imdominus Rex was able to control the velociraptors, who have since become the good guys, because it had raptor DNA. I guess that’s how Tarzan was able to command all of the apes and simians, because he was born with gorilla DNA in him. (Hint: We all have simian DNA.) And while we’re at it, if a black hole suddenly appears at the center of a planet, the entire planet will not just shrink and condense into it such as we say in the JJ Abrams Star Trek. I still loved that movie.
Anything after The Lost World ain’t worth watching. However, Jurassic Park 2015 was decent.
The original Jurassic Park stands on its own, most people agree, it’s fantastic cinema. Everything a blockbuster should be.
The next 2 in the Park franchise are fine. They are fun movies, not as good, but still fun. But on a downhill slide…
Jurassic World is also a pretty fun movie. I’d say a step up in the franchise. Solid fun movie, new setting, slightly new ideas… It worked.
The other World movies though were not very good. Solid downhill slide…
The first movie was great. You can have the others.
As a child I fell straight to sleep in the middle of the first film.
Every sequel is just a worse version of the first movie.
World I think most people would agree. But the first park is one of the best movies ever made.
