The Media Treatment of Michael Jackson Was To Be Expected

r/

I don’t know enough about the man to say whether the allegations that circulated around him about children are true, but I do know that he did sleep in the same room or bed as them (admitted in a 2003 interview). As a fan of Britney Spears, I know the terrible impact that the media can have upon a celebrity, but…

Were it any other celebrity, their reputation likely would’ve been ruined and they would’ve been reamed for it, time after time, on television. To suggest that the interview with him where the interviewer asks “what is a 36 year old man doing sleeping with a 12 year old boy” is wrong or cruel is stupid. It’s a valid question: that kind of behaviour, from anyone, rightly raises questions. And when it’s coming from somebody in a position of power, even more so- the risk of grooming increases. Too many people act as if the question was unfair or malicious, but I think it’s totally valid. I do think it’s weird and creepy for an adult to share their bed or bedroom with children. I know that I, and most other people, wouldn’t do it. So whether he was found guilty or not, I am tired of seeing people say that for him to be asked that question in an interview was wrong. It wasn’t. It was valid given how creepy that is.

Quincy Jones (if he can be believed who the f knows) said MJ was abused, along with his brothers, by his father. F’d up family.

Have you ever heard of co-sleeping?A lot of kids prefer their parents to sleep beside them at night, there’s nothing problematic with that. I don’t know, if that’s the only thing we’re basing these accusations on, then you’re basically accusing all parents of being pedos because they, *gasp*, co-sleep with their toddlers or babies.

One of the kids described skin discoloration on & around MJ’s penis.
So MJ was ordered to have his private parts photographed. Sure enough, the kid was right.

I remember that when the news first broke that he was under investigation for something my reaction was “What Micheal Jackson possibly be accused… oOOooOooh!”

In retrospect it’s sort of odd that nobody really raised the issue much earlier. But he was just so odd many so many ways that hanging out with young boys all the time kind of got lost in the noise

There are lots of Michael Jackson fans who will never ever accept that he has done anything wrong. They treat him like a saint.

And I think it is pretty obvious he abused children. But too many people care about Michael Jackson rather than the kids he abused.

God I hate the way this app works. I just wanted to delete a few words I wrote and now here I am starting over.

MJ was a weird one. The media didn’t like him for it. Plenty of backwards thinking towards him didn’t help.

Were the allegations true? I don’t know. I haven’t seen the same fervour around the allegations as other powerful people.

But I do know that what he did was weird in the context it was presented. Yeah.

You wouldn’t catch me a 39 year old man sleeping in a room with children. Not if I can help it anyway.

But the context of it all is important. There are plenty of places where that isn’t just normal but necessary. Poverty stricken places. Family homes. Etc. adults sleep in the same room as everyone else all the time and no one bats an eye.

Given MJs strangeness. It could also be said he dreamt of a world where closeness and togetherness wasn’t always seen as ulterior. Where children and adults were in fact safe together and no one would be abused.

Or he was setting things up for nefarious purposes.

I’d love to believe in a world where people were safe and only got what they wanted from others and everyone respected boundaries. But that isn’t the world we live in. So until that fantasy world is wished into being by the dragon balls, I think it’s safe to question wtf a grown man was doing sleeping in a room with children. Even though I don’t believe he was guilty of the accusations, I’d still be pissed off.

There’s an ex-Jehovah’s Witness that I follow on YouTube that explains some of Michael’s weirder behaviors are a result of being socially awkward due to the cult (yes, it’s very much a cult). He also had an abusive dad and was a celebrity basically all his life. I think he shared a bed with kids that weren’t his, which is inappropriate. But do I think he molested them? No.

I’ll agree that he was definitely a weird character. You get that a lot with creative types of people but I don’t think that’s enough to condemn the man. Ok, he liked kids. There might be questions raised by that statement butthe the fact he liked interacting with younger people doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad happened. I don’t know, there was a heck of a lot of media attention put on him because of his interactions with kids and there was a lot of debate as well. Maybe he might’ve harmed kids, but my guess is probably not just based off his interviews where they directly asked him these types of questions. As for that trial evidence, it sort of makes me think too. He had a conditionthat makes his skin lighter, the discoloration could’ve been a lucky guess just based off what he looks like in photos in general at about the time his skin color was changing.

I love his music but watching multiple documentaries, I will never believe he was innocent of at least some of the accusations

I think the Chappelle bit covers it pretty well. “Even if he did do that shit… he’s Michael Jackson! Yknow what i mean?”

Growing up in the 90s and 2000s, I remember pretty much everyone talking shit on MJ as a pedophile as the overused joke of the decade, then when he passed (2009?) everyone suddenly became his number one fan.

I’m ignorant to the whole situation surrounded the scandals he went through, but it’s definitely aggravating to see people flip flop over someone to fit an agenda or whatever…

I cringe every time I find myself singing along to his songs that come on the radio, and then I turn the station. He never comes across any of my pandora stations. Yup, I agree. Whatever was actually happening at neverland, at the very least it was inappropriate if not downright illegal.

As Chris Rock said, “We love Michael so much, we let the first kid slide”. Part of me thinks Michael never stood a chance. He never knew normality. He was abused by his fans and was as famous as any human being, maybe ever. The man never experienced a normal day in his life. Im not surprised he never understood normal human behaviour.

The abuse He suffered and the fact that his brother would bring girls into the room that he shared with Michael on tour. Michael could hear everything.

His mental health was stunted at childhood.
Yes, he slept with boys, but I don’t think anything happened.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he was still a virgin.
Hisit wouldn’t surprise me if they used a sperm donor.

All I know is he is dead, and plenty of people got on the witness stand and swore he did nothing wrong. I will always listen to Michael Jackson. I don’t see y’all whining about Elvis

I saw a documentary that I of course can’t remember the name of that posited, maybe he was weird but genuine and that growing up Jackson 5, a boatload of abuse from his father fixated him on the childhood he never had and focused that into giving what he could to other kids.

So weird. But you’re right, today he would have been in jail with seconds of the first suggestion of any of that. The answer is always gonna be rolled in thick dusting of doubt and fried in speculation about the nature of those who came out against him and the nature of those who protected him.

Not sure if we’ll ever have an absolute answer and that’s sad for those who were alleged to be inappropriately touched.

In 10 more years, we’ll be watching YouTubers of ‘the weirdest pedos who never got caught’ and continue to run that smear campaign.
