The MI:7 Shot where Tom Cruise jumps from a cliff wasn’t that cool just because he did it for “real”

r/

I mean let’s be honest, we don’t like action because the person on screen “really” shot someone using a laser blaster from his hand, wearing an iron suit.

We like it because, it’s impossible to see in real life and the perspective we’re seeing it from is mind blowing.

All of those parts were missing from that scene where he rides his bike off of the cliff.

You’re 60 years old, great! You did your shot yourself, great! You know what I would like to see in an action movie? Something that a 60 year old Hollywood actor CAN’T do in real life.

I have nothing against the movie or the franchise but I think the “I do my stunts for real” is more of an ego/TRP thing by now and less it’ll look better on screen. Because I don’t think it does. To be honest I found the last MI:7, the blandest of all.

To add to your point, they make matters worse by shooting it all wrong. They shoot so far away that it might as well be a stunt man.

The Burj Khalifa from MI4 always gets me because it’s all medium shots facing Tom Cruise. Same goes for Top Gun 2 come to mention it.

Same with Florence Pugh doing the jump on Thunderbolts. It was an extreme wide and was a bit of a snooze.
