I definitely couldn’t be trusted with the power to kill anyone, so I’m taking the $1,000 and occasionally regretting it. But a lot of the time it will be a relief that I haven’t killed 14 people in traffic on my way to work and home each day; I don’t want that on my conscience.
I would take 1000 because anger can make someone think they want to kill someone without the act in it. Like when you’re really angry you want to punch someone but don’t? And having the power to do so you’ll do something you’ll regret
well If I can do it remotely I’m solving all the worlds problem in a few years. can I just say kill all terrorists or does it have to be individually and need to know the person. i could sell my ability to governments. pretend like i need cash, a plane ticket, etc… but in reality sit on beach for a few days before magic deaths.
I’d take the $1k. Even if it would be useful to say, stop a terrorist, or a murderer, or save my own life of being attacked, I do think the weight of that power would be too much to carry. Not to mention the guilt if you decided to use it, and Mayer found out it was unjustified.

Well in principle I believe in assassination as a means to prevent war and oppression. But I don’t have the intelligence organisation to know who to pick and when. And I don’t know of any such organisation I trust to advise me.
Even Trump. Who I consider a threat to my friends safety. Can’t be killed right now because his unexplained death right now would feed the popularity of his ideas. He needs to be discredited.
I could work with the government to do justice to those who deserve it. Of course, it would have to warrant it and have 100% proof of their crimes.

I think the minimum I’d take in lieu of the magic kill power is about half a million. That’s about what it would take for me to set up my life the way I want it such that pretty much nobody could fuck with the outcomes I want. Anything less and I’d just take the power and figure out how to use that to get there.
Ideally I do not get the magic kill power. The temptation is too great, eventually I’d use it impulsively in a way I never originally intended. I think that’s pretty clear to me, but I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to take the power for anything less than transforming my whole life.

Next, how does the ability manifest? Is this something I can do anonymously or is it going to be very, very public? Do I have to be close? Line of sight?
On a related note, what about legality? Does the power also make all of my kills somehow legal, immune to prosecution, or at least unable to be proven as done by me?
I am an American who owns a gun. This means I ALREADY have the ability to kill anyone. And probably will do so any day now, at least according to Reddit. (No, mods, that was not a threat.). I have absolutely no intent of every using that gun against a human. I fervently hope I never do.
Having this go from a mechanical kill to a magical one makes no never mind in that equation.
Unless me taking the ability prevents someone less honorable from getting it, I’ll take my $1000.

Actually, I think I’d go ahead and think the man who sexually abused me as a child dead and THEN work on the whole “with such a power, I must be responsible” thing. As a kid I felt guilty because I wasn’t a “good enough witness” (aka the courts didn’t wanna charge him with anything, I was eight so that’s as much as I understand of it) and so he was free to harm more kids, I think I’d be able to handle the guilt to know that one 100% for sure guilty rapist is dead.

Um, no. Gimme the money. I have no interest in murder, and I find it disturbing how many people apparently do.
But money? Money is nice. And with 1K, I could buy myself a crap ton of books. Or a crap ton of video games. Or pair with another 1K or so for a pretty sweet gaming rig.
… Or I could save that money for something bigger and more important, like housing, but that’s a boring option and doesn’t excite me. Even though I’d probably still save a chunk kf that 1K.
