Unpopular opinion because the song is obviously popular enough that they play it on the radio every day and even in my grocery store.
This dude is straight-up obsessed with his friend’s girlfriend and it’s not just “aww, a crush” — it’s creepy. He’s drooling over her, talking about how he wishes she was his, and gets off on how she talks and acts cute, that he thinks and feels “dirty” just seeing them talking/flirting. He’s also a really shitty “friend” for all this.
It’s not romantic, it’s weirdly possessive and kinda predatory. The whole song makes it sound like the woman is some kind of object that he wants to steal and “have.”
This song gives me the same kind of heebie-jeebies that “Private Eyes” does (another creepy and gross song about stalking).

Yeah Rick Springfield is probably the first teen to have a crush on an involved girl.
Thinggs don’t have to be about something nice to be popular.
Aw, but private eyes was catchy and chipper, lol.
Your opinion is about the content of the song?
Do you have an opinion? Or are you just saying what the song is about?
I prefer more wholesome songs like “Every Breath You Take”
One that I find creepy is Stacy’s Mom.. he was a child she was a whole ass adult. Wtf was she doing hanging around them in just a towel
For the longest time, I thought the song was about a queer friend who wanted to be his best friend’s (Jesse’s) girl–like he wanted to be in HER place haha
and shes lovin’ him with that body, I JUST KNOW IT!
Never cared for that song myself
I’m going to need you to sit down when I tell you about “Girl, you’ll be a woman soon”, and “Young Girl”
Or how about the Not at all problematic “Run for your life”…
In a similar vein…
A girl was recently murdered, then dismembered (her head and some other parts are still missing) in Milwaukee. Her killer is currently on trial for this. There have been several updates about the ongoing court case this week on the local news broadcasts.
Just a few days ago, one of those stations aired an episode of The Simpsons that featured an Itchy & Scratchy cartoon wherein Scratchy was also murdered brutally and stabbed/ripped/mutilated into bloody bits.
Ha ha, chopping living things up and maximizing their suffering is funny, right? (Yes, that’s sarcasm).
As I sat there watching the episode, I was struck by the bizarre juxtaposition of these two tales.
Of course I understand that I&S are cartoon violence, but I still think it’s a sad commentary on popular culture. How can we be so absurdly cold and heartless about even the most heinous violent crimes? That shit really happened to an innocent human being… and she’s far from the first such victim. I just don’t think it’s all that funny.
It’s not that deep bro
OP has clearly never heard “Into The Night” by Benny Mardones
I totally agree and I’ve always thought the same thing.
It’s good to hear that somebody else feels the same way.
If you think that’s bad check this outDance with the devil
Reminds me of how I always disliked Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne because shes trying to steal someones elses boyfriend lmao.
You should probably stop listening to music altogether
How is he “obsessed”? Lol
He shit a pint of blood that morning.
I think Jesse’s girl number was 867 5309
Jessie’s Girl Pt2
Meh. It’s a song aboug jealousy and unrequited love. It’s not that big of a deal – and something I actually think a lot of people can relate to.
The song that always bothered me was Jolene by Dolly Parton. It’s one of her big ones, and I like it – but when you think about it she’s basically begging someone to allow her to be her husband’s consolation prize.
There’s a sequel by Coheed and Cambria ft. Rick Springsteen.
I prefer ‘I’m on fire’ myself 🤮🤮
