The Vegas Sphere sucks

r/

Who is making the animations for this thing?

The shit they throw up on those screens during shows is thoughtless, generic, and looks cheaply made. It’s like going to an IMAX theater to watch a handful of moving-screen-savers.

Take the robot character they use. If I saw it in a show or video game I’d laugh at how generic the concept was and how poor this execution of it looks.

Most of the images are not cohesive with the music the band is playing and only distract from it. There seems to be little to no concern with the art direction of it all and I assume it’s just tech bros back there uploading thoughtless animations some program spits out for them and playing them at spectacle level.

UFC at the Sphere was amazing, even from my 3rd row from the back seat.

It looks incredibly stupid to me. But I haven’t seen it in person yet.

I’ve never been there, but sorry your experience sucked.

The band is typically responsible for the images. The band you saw either had a bad creative director or opted for whatever generic offering they have. This isn’t a hit on the Sphere itself, but a hit on the band you saw….

Bands who actually care can do really cool shit there

Blame whoever you saw, theyre who bring the images lol

I imagine that depends entirely on the band and how much work they put in to it with their collaborators.

Dead & Company spent six months working with a creative studio and hired a creative director specifically for their shows at the sphere. They in turn worked with Industrial Light & Magic (one of the best effects and animation shops in the world) to produce several of the pieces, amongst other contributors.

Here’s an interview with the co-creative director discussing the almost year-long process from conception to production. It’s clear a ton of thought, artistic and technical, went into it.

It was anything but disappointing or generic. Who did you see?

I’ve seen the Grateful Dead there twice and the animation work was some of the most impressive I’ve ever seen. Animations inside of animations with real live video footage inside of that. Wormholes leading you through a digital world and then into space, crazy stuff. Like other commenters said, it’s the band who let you down, not the sphere.

People keep saying “whoever you saw”. OP didn’t see anyone. They’ve never been to the Sphere.

The band makes them and from what I’ve heard has to pay for it too.

I’ve seen some tiktoks of the Backstreet Boys performing there and all the animations look like AI generated bullplop. It has nothing to do with the songs and just looks awful

Friend went to U2 and said it was an amazing show with the presentation inside. She’s not even a big fan. She was also on shrooms 😁

    Have you actually been there
