Words like “unalived” and “sewer slide” started being used because social media platforms like TikTok (or at least early TikTok) auto-detection flagged words like “murder” and “suicide” regardless of context. However, many people online know nothing about its context and insist on taking this usage everywhere. So now we live in a world where people talk as if a censorship bot is gonna jump them in real life if they if they don’t censor themselves to describe real world happenings.
This isn’t self-censorhip to show etiquette like it usually is. It’s censorship to bypass the filters enforced by advertisers. These companies are now making an impact on how people speak. That’s what is disturbing about the trend.

I think you are misunderstanding it. It isnt that they are censoring themselves irl to avoid some imaginary filter. It is just that the trending language is taking over. Same as any other kind-of slang. How is saying “unalived” and “Sewer slide” any different to “Cap” or “Crash out”
What I don’t get is why these stupid sounding phrases have popped up when we already had censorship appropriate euphemisms for them.
“Passed away” and “took their life” are pretty tame and well known.
I hate them because they turn a serious subject matter into a joke. Surely saying “100 people were killed” or “the serial killer murdered 6 people” is much more respectful than saying 100 people were unalived” or “the serial killer unalived 6 people before being caught.”
They’re private companies, they can sensor whatever they want
Honestly kind of agree
