Borrowed from local rants & raves.
I’m not posting anonymously because I hope the person on the other side of this sees it and will know who I am. This morning out running errons I saw what appeared to be a cell phone in parking lot near the Purple Cow and sure enough it was. I took said phone, cleaned it up and put it to charge because it only had 12% battery left and waited. Well about 2 hours later the phone rings and I answer. Instead of inquiring as to whom I was and how I got the phone the gentleman on the other side began cursing at me. Call me theif and a no good POS, went on to say how he was gonna track the phone and when he found me was going to “reach up my a$$ and pull my guts out”. Well sir just so you know your phone has a good charge so you should be able to track it and to give you a head start it is now somewhere off 112 eastbound between Pete’s Hwy and Juban exit.
Good luck and feel free to contact again when and if you find it, our first chat was so lovely.

just throw it in the river.
Hahahahahahahaha
Why not let it have a ride across the country ?
Hide it on a truck in a truck stop.
10 seconds in the microwave before you hand it over
Some people are so rude. That was totally senseless on his part.
Can you attach it, humanely, to a stray dog?
Edit: Preferably one about to embark on a homeward bound type journey?
The Purple Cow? TN?
He’s no gentleman!! Also what’s the Purple Cow? Sounds like my kind of joint.
This happened to me once and I told the guy “this is what your phone sounds like hitting the concrete really hard”
I really like the idea of attaching it to something going far away. For instance, if you are on the West Coast, mailing it to someplace like the White House. Or maybe Disneyworld. Let them deal with the hassles of retrieving it.
I also live near a railroad facility and an Amtrak station and several commuter railways. Gaff taping a cell phone to an eastbound train with a battery pack in a ziplock bag seems like fun. They can track the phone and can’t do anything about it. With commuter rail, the cell phone will pop up in various locations around the region, endlessly circling and at night be somewhere inaccessible. Oh the possibilities.
User name checks out.
It looks like it might be Denham Springs, Lousiana. Especially if “112 eastbound” is a typo and the OP meant “I-12 eastbound”.
I-12 crosses Pete’s Highway (marked “16” on Google Maps) and Juban Road is next (marked “1026” on Google Maps).

The Purple Cow is one exit west of Pete’s Highway, on the Range Avenue (“3002”) exit from I-12
My ex lost his phone. I called it and was told, yeah, I saw it and I’m holding it for him. Have him give me a call.
The guy volunteered the info that he was homeless and finding the phone owner was just something to break up his day.
My ex called, went to get the phone, and the guy didn’t even ask for money! He got some though!
That’s how it should have played out!
*errands
Thank you for being a normal good person who carefully picked the phone up and charged it.
In stark contrast is the cockwomble who was being rude.
I hope you wiped off your fingerprints.
I came across a cell phone one time that obviously belonged to a teenage girl. This was before digital locks were popular, so I just scrolled through the phone book and found “mom.” Dialed it. Had a lovely conversation with a woman, then proceeded to get an address and fedexed it. 2 weeks later, I received a lovely thank you card and reimbursement for the mailing
I would have looked around for a big puddle.
Hilarious action on your side.
I was in a similar situation last summer. I found an iPhone in the park next door to my house. It had been dropped near some bushes, but was baking in the hot sun. It was temporarily too hot to function.
So I took it home to cool off. About an hour later the owner calls. He was thrilled I had it and that I took care of it for him. He got it back 15 minutes later.
This is what happens in a civilized society
Toss it in a swamp with gators 🐊
This is one of the reason I just call the non-emergency if I find anything on the sidewalk. Lost credit cards, phones, debit cards, wallet, gym memberships…all get picked up by the local PD whenever they get around to it. I won’t even touch them since I don’t want to deal with someone swearing that I “stole” their property.
Sounds about right for Baton Rouge.
This is glorious!
I was driving my Jeep doorless one day and my phone fell out of my pocket (loose fitting camo pants). 55 mph on the highway. Someone found it and called the last number dialed (Nokia brick, of course). My wife answered, and told him where we lived. The dude came to our house and put it in the mailbox. Never did meet the guy.
Drop it off at the police station. Lol
Put it in a ziploc bag inside a chicken before you throw it in the swamp. Let him get it it out of an alligator.
Throw it on the roof of a shopping mall
Lost my phone twice. First on a train, didn’t notice until after I got out. Called the nr from work, someone had found it on the train, gave it to the ticket inspector, who dropped it off at my station on the train’s return where I could collect at at the end of my work day. Another time it had fallen from my bag, somewhere on the street. Called the number from a store and the person who picked it up told me where to find him and handed it back.
I have also had my bank card returned to me on more than one occasion and people warn me all the time when I dropped/forgot things. Even money…
I’ve still payed a lot of ‘ADHD-tax’ in my lifetime, but it could have been so much more if it hadn’t been for all those friendly people, like you!
It’s good to remember that luckily most people are honest.
Completely off topic but “errons” is so unintentionally funny
Between Pete’s and Juban…somewhere in Denham Springs, LA. In the woods or the water…or a meth head just got his next fix.
You are my hero
I’ve been on both sides of this, but with happy endings.
It happened to me back when flip phones were still a thing, and I think I tried calling myself with a friend’s phone and someone had picked it up. I went to get it back a few hours later and all was well.
Also found a smartphone when I was coming back from a job supper really late, in a touristy area. It was raining too so that, coupled with the lighting making it very prone to bring walked on it I left it there, I took it home and eventually got a call and someone came to pick it up, really grateful they wouldn’t have to buy a new one.
Sorry you had to deal with a terrible person, but honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted to give that phone back in person either, given the threats.
Often stories have people sharing their own similar stories. I enjoy how this one is people sharing stories of it gone right.
Left my phone on top of my car and drove away. Guy behind me at the traffic light said he saw my phone fall off the roof and was picked up by a local gal known for her meth habit.
I turned around and saw her walking down the street scrolling through my phone, so I stopped my car, jumped out, and ran up to her, while excitedly shouting , “OMG You found my phone!!! Thank you so much! I can’t believe I left it”…blah, blah, blah, rambling away while I snatched it out of her hands before she knew what was happening. She’s probably still standing there wondering wtf just happened.

I was taking a long bicycle ride from my mother’s house back home to mine. I was biking in the shoulder and saw a phone lying there.
It was someone’s iPhone with a case that holds a few cards. It had his driver’s license, credit card, debit card and his health insurance card. So basically all his life documents, he was boned.
I tried googling him, but he had almost no web presence. Thankfully, I found his wife’s phone # written really small on the corner of his insurance card.
I called and arranged to return it. Found out of course it had been on the top of his truck and fallen off while they were driving along.
He was super happy about getting back, and just really nice about it.
The perfect solution would have been to find a jeep without doors. Make sure it has truck nuts and tap out stickers. Toss it under a seat, then wait for hilarity to ensue.
I found a phone in the bathroom of the hospital I work at. It was an employee rest room so I knew that. Shortly after I found it his wife called it for him. I told her I was an employee as well and if he wanted to just come to my department office I’d give it back. Super appreciate that I held it and answered his wife. Always says hello when I see him on the floor now!
I’m wondering what an erron is. Combination of errand and error?!?
Found a cellphone once in a store parking lot. I just took it inside and handed it to customer service. Otherwise I’d take it to a police station. The way people are today I would rather just turn it in rather than deal with some looney like OP describes.
This happened to my bf not too long ago. I called his phone and someone had answered saying they found it on a bench and put it on a charge bc it was at 1% and they were just waiting for someone to call. Just so happened to be his work phone too so if that person hadn’t found it he’d probably not have a job rn lol
I found a phone near the park where I took my daughter. I was able to answer when owner’s friend called looking for the phone. It was a kid about 10 or so. He & his friend came to the park to retrieve it.
Way off topic, but lifehack… found a wallet (no phone) and it didn’t have any good ID, except a AAA member card. Figured they might know her phone number; they did; she got her wallet back pronto.
Errons, Ffs.
If it’s not near a store that I can hand it off to for lost and found, I leave right where it is. I made the mistake of doing that and the psycho owner of said cell phone came to where I was, I said Yes I found the phone and before I could even get it out to return it to him he accused me of all kinds of crap. It had been run over for F-sake, the screen didn’t even work. No good deed goes unpunished. I say leave it where it is and let them find it on their own.
Reminds me of finding a business credit card in a store parking lot. It was under a car and as I walked by, the chip caught the sun and flashed. So I saw it out of the corner of my eye. It was a significant enough flash that I stopped and walked back to look. I picked the card up and saw the business name and owner’s name on the card.
I used my phone to google the business and called them. The receptionist answered and I asked for the owner. She asked why and I explained I found their card and wanted to let them know and I could bring it there but wanted them to know so they were not worried. Owner came on the phone and started to cuss me out. Asked where I got their card from. I said I picked it up just now, it was under a car. She said she had searched the WHOLE (major store) parking lot and it was not there so I must have stolen it.
I was so mad, but I realized that if I threw it back and another unscrupulous person got it and used it, she now had my phone number and would come after me. So I left my shopping and had to first go to the customer service of the store which was associated with the parking lot and surrender the card, but I had to ask for a signed and dated receipt from them to prove I gave it back. The customer service rep felt so bad. She said oh no, the owner was just here searching for her card, I can’t believe she treated you that way.
Some people do not deserve kindness, they project their darkness of character on you. I wish I hadn’t called them on my phone. I would have thought about throwing the card back like you did with the phone.
My kids and I went dirt biking in the desert and my daughter lost her phone out in the middle of nowhere land. It was pink and caught someone’s attention and I had FED/EX pick it up from them. They were very gracious about it and we had a good laugh at what are the chances of this ever happening again.
Few years back I worked for uber not a week go by I didn’t find a phone in the car. Always shut them off and dropped them off at the Uber office
pause – you were running what now? 🤣
Guy was trying to break into our house. Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. Police took 32 minutes to show up. He gave up after 24 minutes. As I sat on the other side of the door with my 9.
Sunday morning we found their cellphone under our kitchen window. The neighbor goes I heard someone hit the drain spot & saw a guy pissing on your house. We turned the phone into the police station.
Errons? *errands
I get why he was pissed, but he could have thanked the person and asked for his phone back.

First time I’ve seen Pete’s Hwy & Juban in the wild!! Hey fren!!
Years ago my son realized he didn’t have his phone in the apartment. We called it and the guy at the 7-11 down the block had it. My son had left it on the counter and the guy kept it charged waiting for us to call. They got a couple of regular customers after that.
My youngest goes to speech therapy every Thursday. There was a phone left on the chair next to where we sat. Gave it ten minutes, in case it belonged to one of the people walking around. No one came to get it. When our name was called, I took it up to the receptionist’s desk and she put it on the counter for everyone to be able to see it… We do our 30 minutes with the speech therapist, then have to stop at reception for an issue with a future appointment. There’s a line of 4-5 people in front of us. Can hear the phone ringing on the desk… Ten minutes later, we’re up and the phone is still ringing. “My Love” is calling… By this point I’m pretty sure neither receptionist are going to answer it (maybe they aren’t allowed, I don’t know). But in my head all I can think about are two people frantically searching their car, listening for the phone that isn’t there (been there a time or two myself lol). So I picked it up and answered it: “I’m going to assume you know the owner of this phone, and that it’s missing. Can you let them know it’s at the receptionist’s desk in the therapy department?”. Got a, “Yes, God, yes, thank you so much for answering. Give me a few minutes and I’ll be down to get it.” Responded to that with: “If you’re in the main parking garage, give me five minutes and I’ll bring it to you. No reason to walk allllll the way back.”… He and his wife spent a solid five minutes thanking me while my son enjoyed fruit snacks with their twin girls…… A reminder: it costs absolutely nothing to be kind.
I found a cell phone a few years ago on the pavement next to a drive up USPS mailbox. I don’t remember how I was able to open it, but I called one the numbers in their list of phone calls. Got a friend of the owner, and we made plans to meet up so I could give it back to the owner. They were extremely grateful, and I was glad to help.
I found 2 phones, returned one at my work and the other at the entrance of my neighborhood. Both went well, and they were very thankful.
