I got my first teaching job three hours from home. Dad went down with me to see the area and find an apartment.
I had previously lived with my girlfriend while we were in college. Living by myself wasn’t much of a change.
My whole family and some friends helped me move. Mom helped me decorate. It was fine.
Specifics would be helpful.
Are you asking about:
The physical act of moving boxes into a place on one’s own?
The emotional act of learning to live on one’s own?
The financial aspects of making such a large purchase on one’s own?
Worked a lot and paid off my school loans
Handle what? It’s really fucking easy. Pay your bills, learn to cook and don’t be gross.
It was a bit rough at first. I moved 1000km with only clothing and items from my bedroom. I had to lie on my application. It took a month to save up for furniture to sleep on, and probably 6 mo before I felt like I had enough. The first month I was eating a ton of hotdogs, pizza, nachos etc. anything that could be made in a frying pan, oven, or microwave. Then I got a nice bonus check in dec, I spent that on more cookware, toaster oven, air fryer, etc etc. Now I have a good variety of things to eat.
Badly at first, really badly. I had never lived alone until I was 30. Lived with a long term gf who took care of the house and I paid both of our bills, it didnt bother me though, i loved the situation tbh and i loved her more than life itself. Working 12 hour ngihtshifts 7 days per week making amazing money, was less than a month away from putting down a deposit on a house in both of our names, i teusted her that much. Caught her cheating, I left instantly.
I didn’t even know how to work the washing machine. Things got so bad that I told her I wanted to try again with her, she moved into my new house, I got her to teach me how to do everything over the span of a few weeks to a month.
Soon as I felt confident about it, kicked her ass out.
She said, “So you used me to learn how to live alone?”
I said, “Absolutely, goodbye.”
I probably hurt myself just as much as I hurt her in the end.
Still, no regrets.
Quite well, I guess. I’m minimalistic in my needs. I’ve chosen a location that’s close to the bus stop from where I have a direct line to work, and from where I have anything I could possibly need within a 20-minute walking distance at most.
The best part for an introvert like me is the guarantee of no unexpected visitors. And the fact that I can walk around topless or naked during a heatwave.
