Thoughts on Papasan Chairs?

r/

Hey y’all! I’m looking into buying a papasan chair for my first apartment next year for a reading nook, and I’m wondering if anyone owns one and if they recommend it. Do y’all enjoy it? Is it comfortable?

They look cool and cozy, but are uncomfortable as all get out. I’ve never been a curl up in a chair person and these just hit all the wrong spots on my body/joints.

They are a first furniture mistake that many young people make. They look cool, you think you’re going to use it, and it just winds up being a useless, uncomfortable obstacle in your living room. Get yourself a nice reading chair or recliner. You’ll thank me later.

Don’t do it! They look cool and all but are UAF. Nobody will sit in it; it will be a waste of money.

They look cool and they look like they would be comfy but they’re really not.

I guess I’m the odd man out on this as I loved mine and used for many years. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again. NOTE do buy the ones with the better frames and cushion.

if you do get one, get a double. I’ve had a single and a double and loved the double way more. make sure it’s comfortable, because some of those cushions are just terrible.

I’ve had one. They are comfortable for curling up in and I loved mine. The one thing is they do tip over if you aren’t careful getting in and out.

They’re fun and somewhat comfy and would fit a reading nook.

But if your apartment is not super big I would recommend something that takes up less space and is easier to move around.

Also if you have a pet they will claim your papasan and the tufted cushion will trap lots of fur which is hard to clean.

I wanted one so badly when I was younger. Finally got one about 10 years ago.
It was the most uncomfortable, space using, ridiculous piece of furniture. It would move around, fall over, and hard to get in and out of. Even the cat and dog wouldn’t sleep in it.

    It looked super cool, though.

My bf and I (and often any guests visiting) fight over who gets to sit in the papasan chair. Bonus is you can pull the cushion onto the floor and lay on it like a cat bed. I get the best naps/sleep on that cushion! It is an absolute living room staple for us.

When I was maybe under 10 years old my best friend’s parents who I regularly would sleep the night over there had papasan chairs and we could curl up in there like a bed almost but only if you’re like 3 ft tall.
