I got a text message this morning inviting me to a BBQ from a 913 number. I replied that they had the wrong number. They responded with an apology. I told it was okay and to have a nice day. They responded that I was sweet and that if I lived in the city, one near me, that I was welcomed to come by. I declined and told them I had other plans.
We then started chatting a little bit and before I knew it, I gave out my age and location and a photo of myself that I took right there. They asked about my hobbies but I didn’t comment on it. She had pretty much every hobby in the book. It all seemed really sweet until she asked that now we were friends could we chat on Telegram. That was the moment I realized that this was a scam.
I felt like such a fricken fool! I thought I was smarter than this. Clearly my average intelligence did nothing for me today! I then realized how she asked me questions when I had already answered them and she completely overlooked things I had said and asked. Any questions about her were not responded to.
Ugggghhhh….I don’t know what made me go on with this person about things. I guess I got caught up in the moment. I have friends that I’m seeing later today so I’m not lonely. I just feel like a complete and total idiot!! (I’ve blocked them now)

TL;DR I gave a scammer my information through text messaging despite being of sound mind and having a ton of common sense. I was caught up in the moment and now I just want to punch myself in the eye for being such a fool!

Well, on the bright side, while you’ve only wasted a bit of your time, you’ve also wasted the scammer’s time, The most that’ll come of it is more unsolicited spam calls/texts, because now they know you’re active.
As long as you haven’t given out your DOB/SSN/Address, you should be fine.

Good news is there’s not much they can do with the info you sent besides harass you, bad news is since they know you’re susceptible to scams they’ll likely make an extra effort to scam you for awhile until they give up. Be extra vigilant from now on.
