I work from home and this happened during my lunch break today. I’m 26M and my girlfriend Lisa and I have been together for 2 years.
So Lisa texts me complaining about her coworker being a total bitch again. I was eating lunch and decided to send her a voice message instead of typing back. I go on this whole rant about how her coworker sounds like a nightmare and how Lisa should “tell that crazy lady to shove it” and other stuff I probably shouldn’t repeat.
I hit send and keep eating. About 10 minutes later my phone starts blowing up with texts from Lisa asking “what did you just send me?” I’m confused and check my messages.
I sent the voice message to my boss Janet instead of Lisa. Their names are right next to each other in my recent contacts and I guess I clicked the wrong one.
The message was like 2 minutes long of me just trashing someone’s coworker and using some pretty colorful language. Plus I was chewing food the whole time so it probably sounded disgusting.
Janet texted back “I think this was meant for someone else” with a laughing emoji but I can tell she’s being polite. I immediately apologized and said it was about my girlfriend’s work situation, not ours.
Now I’m paranoid that Janet thinks I talk about my coworkers like that behind their backs. Or that I’m unprofessional. We have a team meeting tomorrow and I don’t know if I should bring it up or just pretend it never happened.
This is so embarrassing. I’ve been working there for 3 years and never done anything this stupid before.
TL;DR: Sent a 2-minute voice message full of swearing and complaining to my boss instead of my girlfriend, now worried about how unprofessional I look.
