Don’t know the exact name for it but I’m American and was coming back home to Texas from visiting Amsterdam. I got confused and somehow ended up in the check in line for non citizens. Took me until I got up to be checked back in that I was told i came in through the wrong line! Here’s how that conversation went
Security checking my passport: “Are you American?
Me: “yes, why?”
Security checking my passport: “you’re in the wrong line, this is for non citizens”
Me starting to freak out because i thought i would get in trouble and i was completely by myself newly 18 yrs old “omg im so sorry i didn’t know there were different lines”
Security checking my passport: “it’s okay you’re not in trouble.”
now that i look back at it, i laugh realizing no families or people in line with me were speaking English and i didn’t even notice until later
TL,DR : went through wrong airport security line and felt really dumb

you weren’t in the global entry line either….
that’s part of the trusted traveler program.
>Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler Program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. The application fee is $120, and membership lasts for five years. All applicants must undergo a background check.
Highly recommend for future foreign travel. A good number of credit card reimburses or partially covers the fee. For no annual fee card as you are from Texas, the fidelity card gives you $100 credit towards it.
Sounds like a simple, unremarkable mistake. I’m glad you survived.
Thanks for wasting my time with this post
When I’m entering the EU (as a EU citizen) I sometimes take the non EU line if it’s shorter.
Never gave me problems.
