Context: I’m British, some people say I have a posh voice, and I was visiting New York for a week with my grandparents a few weeks ago.
On our last day in NYC I decided to walk around Manhattan by myself while my grandparents picked up the hire car to drive upstate. As I’m walking through Times Square I get stopped by a man with a microphone alongside a camera man and a producer. He stops me and asks me if I wouldn’t mind answering a few questions. I see on the microphone it says “The Big Weekend Show” which, to an American might be obvious, but I had never heard of this show before so I figured it was some small YouTube thing.
So, I decided to agree to the interview (when in Rome). I should add that we visited the US right as the whole group chat leak thing happened, and just about everyone was talking about it. The interviewer then starts asking me questions like “have you ever been added to a group chat by mistake?” And “what would you do if you were added to a group chat by mistake?” Etc. I obviously immediately realised what he was referring to and gave my honest answers to the questions he was asking. (I have very little knowledge and opinion on the topic, being British).
After the interview was done, I asked if I could watch it anywhere, and the interviewer says “yeah it’ll air on Fox News on Saturday at 6pm” as part of their “talk of the town” segment. Right away I realise I’m about to be on the most hated news network in America. But on top of that, when I get nervous I tend to talk a bit more posh for some reason, and naturally I was nervous as hell being interviewed on camera. So especially when put next to regular NYC citizens I sound like a really stuck up posh British dude.
Returning to uni in the uk I’m not hearing the end of it from my friends, they’re all repeating the phrase i used in a posh voice. And my family keep bringing it up 3
Overall it was a cool experience, I feel (hope) that since I’m British I can get away with being on fox without people thinking I agree with their politics lol
TL;DR I got interviewed in Times Square not realising it was for Fox News. I accidentally spoke in a posh voice so now I’m suffering the consequences from my friends and family.
Edit: A lot of people are asking for the link, I tried to find it but it seems fox only posts some of their talk of the town segments and my one isn’t on their website, any suggestions of where I could find it LMK!
Comments
Link?
Did you sign anything?
what was the group chat thing about? (Australian here)
Are you going to post the clip or do we have to wait for the internet detectives to track it down?
Lol
How you gonna not post a link to that?
Steer into the skid man. Nothing wrong with the little good natured ribbing from friends and family, but if you make fun of yourself a little bit, you should be all set.
Where’s the link!
Are you a guest lecturer looking for a full-time professorship who didn’t tell your on-again-off-again spouse that you’re still married?
How is this a tifu issue? You were just being interviewed, not like you were advocating anything bad publicly. Being interviewed doesn’t mean you are with everything about the interviewer or their network
How do your friends even know about it? Do you really hang out with UK people, who are in University, who at 11pm local time on a Saturday night are watching Fox News?
You let Fox News interview you?
That’s it, you’re a Nazi. Round him up, boys.
Do you have a very posh voice, by chance?
lol
you alright?
I saw this! I thought you where very cute xx
Today I learned some British dudes call themselves posh. Thought that was female thing.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the show Naked Attraction, accents are way more important to Brits than I ever could have imagined.
I’ve been there buddy. Me and a friend got interviewed by Fox once for our local small business we were starting. This was before trump but after Bush so the network was on the downslide. We are veterans, and I think that was their target for the segment. So we go to the studio and the first thing they say is “here are two American Heroes who are starting a business….” Oh the cringe, in the Army we use ‘Hero’ as dig. We had to be like “can you not call us heroes again please?”
Fun fact. Fox is 0% the most hated news network in the USA. It’s actually MTV because TRL stopped playing the whole music video.
Presumably you told your friends about it :/ can’t imagine many young british people are randomly watching fox news enough to catch it.
Fox News has been the most popular news network in America for 93 consecutive quarters. That’s 23 years straight…. You people are so brainwashed it’s pathetic…..
Ummm, I can’t imagine your friends randomly watching fox news across the pond and finding it. You totally told them and wanted that 15 minutes of fame. Posted on reddit to get a few more minutes
“since I’m British I can get away with…”
acting a tiny bit like Piers Morgan??
Fox us just the “most hated” on Reddit. It’s actually most popular according to the ratings
If you were completely honest, it’s pretty likely they won’t even release your interview. Fox isn’t exactly known for allowing anything even remotely critical of Trump and his allies.
Don’t think twice about it.
My all-time classic was flying a small plane with a friend. He had installed an oil filter on his Stinson, but the oil hose blew off! The windshield was covered in oil, there was no visibility, and he called a Mayday! Luck would have a small-town reporter looking for his big news break was at the airport. So, looking outside the side windows and calling distance. Landed and rolled up the terminal. Heart racing, reporter runs out and stuffs a mic in my face, “Were you scared to die?” I had the coldest looking resting bitch face and responded “no comment.”
Sure enough, “Small plane barely missed crashing into homes, details at 10”. Fawkers. A friend saw it and commented, “Anton Chigurh” (No Country for Old Men) had more emotion than your “no comment.” You looked like a contract killer getting home after your last job. No idea why he thought that. As you can see from my expression, getting ready for brain surgery, I am quite friendly. Where did I leave my captive bolt pistol?

Fox News may be the most hated “news” outlet on Reddit, but certainly not America based on viewership numbers.
“most hated news network in America” That kind of depends on which half of the U.S. population you talk to.
American here: I never heard of that show either.
We all use our phone voice when being interviewed by Fox News mate
I’m so annoyed this hasn’t been linked yet.
It’s definitely not the most hated news channel, it’s by far the most popular by viewers. Also, more than half the country agrees with or endorses their POV. Reddit is very much not representational of the American public.
Have a nice lie in and just get your butler to wake you up when it’s all over.
Found the clip OP

Your story reads pretty posh, you sure you aren’t just posh?
I love how your reddit avatar actually looks kind of like you in real life.
To be fair, it might be the most hated news network in the US but it’s also the most loved if you look at the ratings. Fox News absolutely trounces CNN and MSNBC in that area.
not the most hated network
I totally thought you were the girl later in the segment for a minute… Totally missed your blurb earlier in the segment
“TIFU by accidentally doxxing myself on Reddit and now everyone knows what I look like”
“It can be easily done, but it’s easily noticeable and fixable!”
It’s only the most hated news network on Reddit.
Wow, that’s kinda wild how you accidentally ended up on Fox News sounding all posh and stuff… lol 😅
Not an F up. You gave you opinion on TV. Happens all the time.
Extremely British of you to think Fox is the most hated news network in America
My office used to be across the side street from Fox News. It looked into “America’s Newsroom” (gag)
S’all good, mate 🙂
It’s definitely not the most hated news network.
You mean the most watched newscast in the country.
Fox News lies almost as much as Trump. They lost a civil slander lawsuit to the tune of over $750 million (£562,679,263.28).
They are roundly hated.
Since you’re a Brit, I forgive you for ending up on Fox News. No way you could know. lol
I guarantee you were more well informed than most of the Americans they speak with.
Fox News may be Reddits most hated news network but, statistically, its the most popular news network in America.
TV is TV man. All good lol
No worries, you were just “man on the street”. You didn’t reach out to them.
Unrelated, but it’s nice to see someone else still uses the “</3” for a broken heart
Who gives a shit how fancy you sound- what matters is, did you speak the truth and from your own heart.
Still not the worst Redditor ending up on Fox News story
“Hire car” man i learn something british everyday
It’s vocally hated on Reddit for sure but honestly it’s one of the most popular. Just depends on who you listen to.
what is the point of this post? this is a genuine question
