TIFU by feeding a racing/carrier pigeon

r/

So to start out with some information because im not sure its done in every country. Where i live (and nearby countries) some people like to have pigeon and drive them to a different country or region. So they have to fly home. Its a race

So 5 days ago i found a pigeon in my garden with a ring on his leg and he was white. So i thought maybe hes weak and lost so ill give him some food for a day or 2 and then he can fly home.

I was very wrong. On day 3 i noticed he was still in my garden. And he apparently pooped a lot. On day 4 i contacted the owner. And that man barely responses.

Today the pigeon walked into my home when i was in the kitchen when i was cooking and stood stood right next to me. So i “scared” the dove out of my house. And the minute i was cooking again he was again right next to me.

TL;DR So now my whole garden is full of pigeon poop, i cant open my door anymore even though it’s summer. And now i have a pigeon that doesnt even let me pet him

you’ve been adopted by a pigeon who now thinks your kitchen is his VIP lounge

I think we all have to learn the hard way not to feed the pigeons

We have those racing pigeons in my area too. I didn’t know about it until I spotted some curious flights nearby and talked to club members.

Along with racing, some wedding companies are now releasing white carrier pigeons as a “dove release” at weddings because the white carrier pigeons will fly back to their loft and can be sold/rented again

That’s a domestic pet animal, don’t just leave it outside if it’s owner has abandoned it. Call a rescue if you don’t want to keep it. It’s as domesticated as a dog is, and it would be cruel to leave it outside to predators.
