TIFU by guessing TIFU stood for This Is F’d Up and not bothering to look it up like a non-mad person.

r/

Just what the title said. When I first saw TIFU, I thought it stood for “This Is…”, not “Today I…”. Which reinforces that I am somewhat of a dork.

Having TIFU stand for “This Is…” worked with most posts, but not all of them, which only made my pea brain confused.

The best part is, though, that I simply assumed that I did not think that anything was wrong. I just carried on with the wrong thing in my neurodivergent mind, which reinforces my whole ADHD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, somehow. Or not.

People have told me many times over my long life to nit assume anything. I should write it down somewhere then read it once in a while. Naw, that sounds like too much work. Then I have to remember where I put that note I am supposed to remember to look at.

Other than that, how’s your day going? Mine is full of TIFU WTF moments, like when I finally looked up what TIFU actually effing stood for.

TL;DR: I should actually read the documentation once in a while instead of assuming. Yippie me. LOL.

Way way way back in the day when I first discovered rage comics, I googled what “nsfw” meant and the first result, for whatever reason, was “not safe for women,” so I started searching nsfw posts because I wanted to know what wasn’t safe for me to be reading.

Took me a little bit to realize its “work” and not “women”

Fellow dumbass here. I thought that SMH stood for So Much Hate, not Shaking My Head. Turns out it can mean the first but often, maybe more commonly, means the second. In r/AFL in the post round thread they have lop of the week and SMH of the week. It was all filled with dumb things happening to teams or players or players doing dumb things. I lived with it for ages and eventually snapped arguing it was basically bullying to put “so much hate” on a player for doing something stupid or ill informed. Hate is a strong word after all! Following round I got the SMH coz old mate was shaking my head at my stupidity.

For a long time, I thought it was THING I F’ed Up. Which works in all the posts, but the “obligatory not today” part of so many posts made me look harder for the answer.

Honestly? “This Is F’d Up” still kinda works and might even be better for half the posts here 😂 You weren’t wrong you were just early to the rebrand.
