About two weeks ago or so I was being way too crazy with my card like I was ordering so many stuff online left and right (pretty much tiktok shop only) and decided to physically set aside my rent money so I wouldn’t accidentally spend it. I put it somewhere in my apartment thinking I was being super responsible.
The problem is that I now have zero clue where I put it. I’ve literally torn apart drawers, checked coat pockets, looked under my bed, flipped couch cushions and I just cant find them. I’m freaking out like my landlord messaged me since today’s the 1st and he usually gives me the opportunity to pay it anywhere between the 1st and the 5th so I pretty much have like 4 days to find them otherwise I’m fucked.
TL;DR: I put my rent money aside and now I can’t find them

I’m confused why you had to hide cash to stop spending on your phone, which is digital
Delete TikTok.
It’s in your clothes drawer/closet somewhere.
Some usual places: Freezer, or in a book
In-between the pages of a book?

My wife used to do this all the time. Stash money in books, etc. She’d put on a coat in the fall, oh, look, there’s $200 in my pocket. I must have put it in there this summer. She was always looking for money she stashed.
After you find it, try and put a stop order on your bank account to pay for it. When your wages are paid in, the rent will automatically be paid to the landlord.
When I try to remember stuff like this, I find it’s impossible to recall when I am stressed about it. Normally, I have to be completely relaxed and the memory will come back to me. Go someplace and sit and relax. The spot you hid it at will come back to you if you aren’t trying to remember it. I know all of this sounds counter-intuitive.
Open a savings account that is attached to your checking account, then put rent into the savings account when you get paid.
Then grow up, delete tiktok, & stop wasting your money on useless shit.
Come up with a plan to keep this from happening again.
You can literally freeze the money in a container in the fridge. That will at least slow you down.
You can get or use some sort of locking container with a programmable combination and let a trusted friend set the code and not tell you until you call and convince them it is ok.
You can make an arrangement to pay the landlord early (and get a receipt) so you don’t need to try to hide it.
you’ll definitely find it when you’re packing, though. silver linings
Same same. I call it “putting it in a clever place”, and then I can never find that place
Under a rug? Maybe hidden somewhere in bed sheets?
You’re looking at this the wrong way, just tell the landlord it’s national landlord day and you set up a scavenger hunt! It’s your way of saying thank you for being such a great guy
Do you have a folder with your lease in it? Could be there. Some other suggestions (just spitballing based on where I might hide something if I were in your shoes):
Go to your bank account and look for the day you withdrew the cash. Try to retrace your steps. What did you do when you got home? What did you make for dinner? Stuff like that. Fill in little details from that day (if you can), and the rest might fall into place
Edit: I see OP found the money but I’ll leave this up in case google brings someone here in the future
Op, where did you end up finding it? Please report back.
There’s always money in the banana stand
Put on a jacket i havent worn in a while. Found $3k in the pocket. Not only did i not remember where i hid my stash but i completely forgot i had a stash
I’ll come over and look with you. Finders keepers.
My tiktok account doesn’t have the “shop” icon for some reason. I dont use tiktok much but I feel like this has absolutely saved me from making some garbage purchases that I didnt really need but would have bought if it was easy enough (looking at you, light-up atomic purple joycons).
Also I’ve hidden money from myself in my house before and it always feels like a windfall when I find it months later. I wouldn’t do it with bill money though
Look in the kitchen cabinets.
I bet you it’s sitting right out in the open rofl
Where was it?
I’m waiting for the punch line.
Rent a sniffer dog
For those wondering what that must have looked like, I made a quick drawing to visualize it.

If you’re worried about accidentally spending your rent money, you may have a problem. How much stuff do you need?
Also, how did you forget where you put it? I’ve lost large sums of cash in the past, but only because I used to hide it from myself when I was blackout drunk and leave “clues”. I don’t drink much anymore.
Maybe you slipped it under something like a desktop computer, or tv, etc…
Damn, so because you’re irresponsible you did something that you thought was responsible, but actually ended up being irresponsible?
Next time, keep the money in the bank and put forth some self control.
Elaborate solutions to destructive habits are a sign of addiction. You thought it was more reasonable to withdraw and hide cash from yourself than to avoid those spending habits.
‘A fool and his money are soon parted’
During a bipolar manic episode, I was paranoid that people were going to come in my house when I wasn’t home and steal some cash, so I proceeded to hide $20 bills all over my house in really weird spots (One was in my safe inside the envelope that had my birth certificate). I’ve since moved out of that house and I’ll still occasionally find a 20 when going through old stuff.
Clean your house top to bottom and you’ll find it
I was super drunk one time, on a payday, and decided to go Pokemon hunting. My memory said I had my cashed paycheck (aside from the liquor and cigs) in my pocket. I went Pokemon hunting happily, and the next morning I couldnt find the money. Memory didn’t give me any hints or clues other than “I wanted it to be safe but it was in my pocket” over 100$ gone. Budget was wrecked for that. I panicked and cried and lamented about Pokemon hunting with money while drunk.
1 year, 4 months later I’m doing laundry and digging thru old stuff. Flip out a pair of jeans I’ve not fit into since having kids, and there comes money! I count it, and it’s the missing money. A memory SLAMS into my head. I was changing my shirt and moved the money to a “safe place” the INSIDE of a pair of jeans I can’t wear lol
When I couldn’t find something and my ex had last had it, I pretended to be her and think of the dumbest place for me to put this. It worked more often than not.
In shoes?
Plot twist, you lost your mind and never really hid the money.
I know someone who did this 🤣 thankfully he sold the house to family and they returned it when they renovated the room 🤣 it was many thousands of dollars and he didn’t have a clue it was missing
I love this 🙂
Your roommate or your landlord took it.
Is it possible someone stole it? Maybe someone you had over stumbled on it
Meanwhile i know exactly where that one rock is that I picked up on a beach 20 years ago and have been carting around ever since (it’s under the unfolded towels that have been sitting on my dresser all month).
Don’t be like the Grandpa that didn’t trust banks and hid his money. Now he has dementia…. oops!
one time when i was a little kid i got $20 (which was big money in my mind) so i hid it until i could decide what i rly wanted – no impulse buys with regret. like you, i lost it n was devastated (at least it wasn’t owed tho). found it yrs later as a teen in a “hidden” drawer in a stupid turtle shaped pencil box holder thing. blew it immediately on stupid shit, lol.
I didn’t read your story but you reminded me to pay rent, even though I’m early, so thank you
I hide my money in the bank
Under or behind a dresser or desk drawer? Especially if you have dustboards between the drawers.
In a shoe or in the pocket of something hanging in your closet?
Can you remember where you were when you counted out the money to set it aside?
If you wanted to. Hide next month’s rent money from yourself right now, where would you put it?
Last I saw, was you were putting under your mattress.
Check the freezer and the oven.
Check your paper towel roll
Many years ago I hid my money one night, drank too much and could not find it for WEEKS!
Weeks later, that’s where it was. Thankfully I didn’t throw it away!
Take a shower.
When I get in the shower I remember 300 things I have to do suddenly and have to fight the urge to jump back out before I forget again.
Just go to the last place you look and it will be there.
