TIFU by inadvertently accusing a friend of being a scammer

r/

So yesterday was my birthday (not looking for birthday wishes). One of my friends who is like a brother to me that lives about 1200 miles away wanted to send me a gift and decided to send me $25 via Apple Cash. I have never been sent cash via Apple Cash so I was confused when I saw it pop up while we were texting.

I asked him what that was all about and he said “I sent you $25” asked him how I was going to redeem it, and he says “click on it” . I did, saw something about Green Dot and quickly said “nope” and closed it without accepting it.

My reasoning for not accepting it, I don’t trust Green Dot due to dealing with scammers trying to use them at my old jobs to make purchases (and failing).

I responded “oh no no no, I don’t deal with anything associated with Green Dot too many scammers use it” he typed “ooookkkkk” so he canceled it and asked if I used Cashapp.

I don’t trust any cash receiving apps either so I said “hell no, even more scammers use that” he than said “well I tried” and his answers to my texts were very short and generic answers like “ok” and “yeah” after that.

I realized after that, I might of inadvertently accused him
of trying to scam money off me. I tried to explain I wasn’t accusing him, and knew he ment well but I just don’t trust those services. All he said was “it’s fine” but I got the feeling he was offended.

TL;DR: friend tried to send me money for my birthday, didn’t trust using a cash receiving app, inadvertently accused said friend of trying to scam me.
