TIFU by locking customers in

r/

At my job we have an enclosed gated area that we sell trees and other plants. We usually lock it up when the store closes for the night. We often close and lock it a few minutes before the store closes.

Today I was locking the area known as “The cage”. I glanced in and could have sworn I saw no customers still inside. I then proceeded to lock the cage. However shortly after I locked the cage I was mortified to see two customers were inside and they were locked in! I also didn’t have the key to unlock the cage so I got on the radio and asked for the key to the cage.

I was profusely apologizing to the customers who took it in stride. The manager on duty came a few minutes later and was able to release the customers who were still taking the incident in stride. He thought it was amusing as some of my coworkers.

Fortunately I am in no danger of being fired for this and the manager commented it is a funny story.

TL:DR Accidentally locked in customers in a gated area but the manager got them out. No danger of me being fired and customers took it in stride.
