TIFU by looking like I was stealing someone’s art

r/

Today I wanted to do something big for my husband, so I ordered 200$ of paper flowers (he loves flowers and I wanted a lifelong option)

Instead of ordering a nice and coherent bouquet like people would usually do, I asked to get exactly one of each kind of flower that the shop has, so that we could make our own small bouquet compositions at home.

The seller was quite surprised. “…Only one of each ?”. She asked for my Instagram account, I wasn’t comfortable with giving mine but I followed her the exact same day and it’s my name + first name so it really wasn’t hard to find.

I followed a lot of random other accounts making paper flowers as it’s my current hyperfixation

She shipped my order, then made an Instagram story to complain how some people (especially women she said, like me) were observing her hard work and stealing her art.

I’m 90% sure she was talking about me, plus she ignored my last messages on the marketplace she uses.

TL;DR : ordered exactly one of each product of an artisanal store which is suspicious, the store owner immediately made an Instagram story to complain about an art thief

If she thought you were stealing, why would she ship it in the first place?

When you’ve made your bouquets, respond with a picture and a message about how you won’t be funding small businesses that like to make shitty passive aggressive and incorrect posts about their customers again.

I dont think you fucked up, i think the store owner is the one being weird

Post pictures of all your bouquets. Under each one of them, put a note saying that the shop owner publicly accused you of only buying the flowers to steal the designs, so you won’t be giving them any links or publicity. Repeat that any time anyone asks you where you got the flowers.

Get more likes than the shop, and post the results to /r/pettyrevenge

B … but … but you BOUGHT her art. I don’t get it. If she doesn’t want people to buy her flowers to make their own bouquets, then she shouldn’t sell her flowers individually.

If you were stealing her work, you wouldn’t have bought her products!

That is suspicious. I’d post pics of the bouquets and tag the shop when you’re done. Then mention how grateful you are with how well done their flowers were and it’s got you excited to try it yourself. I think this is a scared shop owner with quick fingers. If I were a small shop owner, I’d be worried too. Why be petty when you could kill them with kindness?

As an artist, i think she was being a little paranoid

    It’s not you; it’s her!

What did you supposedly steal? It sounds like you paid them for paper flowers.

Don’t respond. Kill her with kindness. Make the bouquet, post it, and tag the artist who made the flowers.

Make the bouquet, post how beautiful it is, tag and thank her, but also link to that post as a PSA to let others know that they should make a smaller purchase in order to not upset the artist. It is more effective to warn others than to make her feel guilty.
