TIFU By not questioning why my grandmothers dogs were barking.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. This just happened

(17M) So I’m getting paid to babysit my little brother. We watch an anime movie since I want to put him on, just like how I did my older sister. He gets hyper since we ate some sugar but we’re having fun. It’s been a while since I spent time with him 1 on 1, so I make the most of it. We dined like KINGS.

He finally knocks out and sleeps on me. I feel him sweating. I cut the AC on and sit back next to him. Meanwhile, my grandma’s dogs are barking. She’s not home, and they normally bark for hours until she gets home. I check them occasionally, yes it’s annoying but it is what it is. They’re in the cage, my brother’s running around, and I’m cleaning after trying (and most likely failing, gonna check tomorrow) at making yogurt. I hear a beep. Thought it was my earbud, its Jlab do it beeps roughly the same when pressed, I only ever have one in so I can hear. I have very bad vision, I took off my glasses to relax.

Dogs still barking, and he’s about to sleep so I go in, see them barking loud but since it was dark and this isn’t unusual I shut the door. They were just walked by my grandmother before she left so I assumed it was fine. My grandma’s room has a separate heater from the AC. She gets home, I’m like, “Yeah, he had a sugar crash.” And giggle like a school girl. She walks into her room and yells, “WHO TURNED THE HEAT ON?”

And my dumbass, still giddy as hell, says “I didn’t cut the heat on I cut the AC on cold since he was sweating!”

So apparently the Heater was pointed at the dogs cage, didn’t see house close it was since she moved it. That was the beep. The fan is pitch black with the only orange thing being the LED and a sticker. The room was dark okay.

My soul left my mothafucking body.

Knowing my brother, I immediately apologized. Said it must’ve happened when I turned my back cleaning, he was in the same area whenever I looked. The dogs ran to me, and I’m there acting like I’m repenting my sins to these poor Canines. Checked them for burns, they are fine since they weren’t exposed long and no visible burns. They’re not even my dogs, but I take responsibility when everyone is out.

TL;DR When babysitting my brother got destructed cleaning up after making my yogurt starter, he ended up turning on the heater and pointed it at my grandmothers dog while they were in the cage, i unknowingly closed the door while it was on.
