So first off. Apple, what the fuck? Why the hell does an iPad get text messages on it? Apparently I’m a 40 year old dumbass who didn’t know that was a thing. (I’m new to Apple’s echo system).
I got a new iPad a few weeks ago and signed in with my apple account. I rarely use it. I learned shortly after getting it that I hate tablets and prefer a laptop. So my kids watch Netflix and stuff on it.
My wife and I are in our early 40’s and been married 20 years this July. We have three kids, 12, 10, 8. Oldest is a girl the other two boys. They’re out of school for summer and we’re apparently watching my iPad this morning. My wife works from home.
Today I’m at work and thinking about her and so I sent a message joking but also not joking: “hey, let’s do some fucking tonight.”
She responded with a laughing face and said ok. But that was it, I wasn’t finished with the conversation.
Me: “I’m gonna wreck that p*ssy. This has been a long day. So get ready”
Her: “Sure, big talker. You’ll probably fall asleep early again. 😂🤣😂”
Me: “not tonight, tonight is a good night for fucking and sucking.” (Norm McDonals reference)
That was pretty much it. Now I don’t normally talk like this. I was just trying to be funny and risqué. My kids have certainly never heard me say any of those words. But a few minutes later.
Her: “uhh, did you know the kids are on your iPad? And did you know your texts are going to the iPad? Cause they just read those messages.”
I have no idea how to look them in the eyes when I get home. My precious 12 year old daughter thinks I’m a degenerate. All three of them will be telling their spouses about this someday. It’s like I just created a lifelong memory just like we all have certain memories from our childhood we don’t want to have.
TL;DR: I sent my wife some racy sexual text messages and my kids were on my iPad. The texts were being delivered to the iPad and they saw all of them. They’ll never unsee them.

Yeah, iPads have gotten messages almost forever. You can turn it off if you want.

Android devices do the same thing. That’s how messaging works. Messages go to any logged-in device.
Probably a good time to tell you that your texts also go to your MacBook (if you have one).
You can turn this off by stopping messages from being forwarded on your phone, and shutting iMessages off on your iPad.
Turn off the handoff feature
Love it! It’s your iPad and those kids will be ok. Make sure you disconnect the iPad when you get home. Not a big deal. It’s only talk, not like they walked in on the two of you in the act.
Well, at least they weren’t pictures. That might cost you some therapy. Lmao.
At least their parents are still together. You’re still winning.

Kids knowing their parents have a healthy sexual relationship isn’t bad, it’ll be fine. Use as opportunity to talk about what seems relevant.

iMessages synced up to an ipad has been responsible for SO many divorces.

Because it’s really convenient to respond to messages on your iPad while you are on it without having to take your phone out (same applies with MacBook)
So perhaps don’t let your kids use your logins 😉
My kids have iPads but their iPads are setup:

Catching you in the act of talking about the act is infinitely less scarring than catching you in the act itself. That said, it’s probably still slightly scarring all the same 😂😂😂

Let this be a lesson to read setup screens and to read & pay attention to things that pop up on your phone.
The iPad tells you about iMessage when you were setting it up, and your iPhone will have had an obnoxious popup telling you iMessages were being delivered to another device…
(After deleting messages and any photos on the iPad) if it comes up in conversation say it was lines from “a really stupid movie for grownups”? End of conversation, and never mention it again.
every device you own other than that phone would have told you that ‘ an iPad is using iMessage on your account’.
EVERY ONE OF EM will trigger this notification to all of your other devices the second you setup iMessage on that iPad, which may have been when you first got it.
Meh, my adult daughters moved home during COVID and definitely heard us getting busy despite our best efforts.
Tell your kids that adults who love each other have sex together, and they will understand wgen they’re older.
If the kids saw your texts, then the iPad would be connected to your wife’s account. My kid only sees the messages I receive not the ones I send.
Also, it’s easily turned off
My dad yelled at me once because me getting something from the kitchen in the middle of the night ruined the.. “mood” from the bedroom on the other side of the house. It’s just a little bit of childhood trauma, they’ll probably be alright.
