TIFU by reaching out to my former intern manager after disappearing without a trace for over a year.

r/

A year after I disappeared, I reached out to my former manager at an unpaid internship I did last summer.

I interned for a small company for approximately six months last year, while also maintaining a regular full-time job. The manager I had knew that I had a full-time job, this internship was unpaid and part-time, so there was flexibility. Things started getting really busy with my FT role, and I don’t know why I didn’t just admit that I was drowning in work between the two jobs, but instead, I just disappeared. Prior to disappearing, I had a pretty good relationship with my manager, but as more time passed, I just didn’t know how to reach out. The burnout didn’t help either.

Was it a bad idea to reach out to apologize? I hope they don’t think I want anything from them; I genuinely just want to clear the air.

TL;DR reached out to the internship manager I ghosted for almost a year

I think you are burying the lede

Their response is the thing in question here, not any other’s opinions on if you should have

Should you have told them before you ghosted them? Yeah. Did it matter to them beyond your reputation? Probably not

You should never worry about apologizing for a mistake you did, it shows maturity
