TIFU by sending my friend a gift

r/

This happened earlier today. I thought it would be nice to get a couple gifts for close friends that I’ve been wanting to get them for a while. When I send gifts I do a main gift and a small supplemental item; it’s usually something cute or silly that I think would make them smile, but not something that’s enough to warrant a full gift by itself.

For this gift, I decided to do a funny supplemental and got my friend a t shirt. I’d never do a gag shirt as the only gift for a birthday/holiday so it’s been sitting in my ideas list for ages. A link to the shirt if you’re interested – it’s got a deer on it made out of a pickle, and it says “Dill Doe”

I shipped my friend’s surprise gifts a few days ago and they arrived while she was running errands today. Her mom was home babysitting her 4 year old son so she asked Grandma to get the mail. Of course, Grandma was all too happy to encourage her grandson to check the mail. He’s been especially excited to open packages since his parents got him a few toys in the mail.

My friend ended up coming home early since she didn’t need to make her next stop. She pulls up just as her mom and son come outside to check the mail. Once she gets out of the car her kid has already ripped open the package and holds up the Dill Doe for everyone to see. He says “It’s a shirt!!” with a huge smile. My friend laughed and said, “Oh, nice!” and quickly folded it up before he could ask any questions. Her mom was laughing so hard and her kid was grinning ear to ear while my friend felt mildly embarrassed about this surprise gift. Turns out she loves it, but it wouldn’t matter either way – this story is a better gift.

TL;DR: I sent my friend an inappropriate gift and her son opened it and showed everyone
