TIFU by Taking melatonin Tablets instead of progesterone and sleepwalking through life.

r/

I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone to induce my period. The pills looked exactly like my melatonin pills. Both were chilling on my bedside table like little agents of chaos.

For two days, I confidently took melatonin twice a day and missed my hormone doses. At first I thought I was just super tired for no reason. I was dozing off during lectures, yawning aggressively while trying to lift weights at the gym, and just generally floating through life like a sleepy ghost. It was only after two full days of this that I finally looked at the label and realized what I’d done.

Turns out I was sedating myself on schedule.

Now I’ve missed four hormone doses, two classes, and my uterus is still on strike. But hey, my sleep schedule? Immaculate.

TL;DR:Took melatonin instead of progesterone. Accidentally became a human sloth.

At least the sleep schedule is now on point… though I can only imagine how chaotic things could have gotten if the melatonin had been a different kind of pill, maybe next time label them with a permanent marker?

How much melatonin did you take that it affected you that much?

Get a pill organizer to ensure you’re taking the correct thing at the correct time, and reduce the risk of skipping because you thought you had already taken it, or doubling up.

Ooh but don’t you ALSO have the Best Sleep of Your Life with the progesterone? I had to take mine at night because it made me sleepy, and gsve me the BEST dreams and the best sleep!

I accidentally did this with melatonin instead of cold and flu meds a few years ago, spent a few days of my holiday feeling drowsy as well as sick but considered myself very lucky that it was only melatonin and not something worse 😂

At least it was only two days. It could’ve been a whole lot worse.

I had a coworker years ago who was at work with a cold. She had a package of medicine that had daytime pills and nighttime pills and accidentally took one of the nighttime pills at work. It was a long coffee filled day for her.

At least your period’s late but your REM cycle’s never been healthier

I’ve just done similar myself, girl.
I dug out my Trazodone (used as sleep aid) for my gf when she was having a headache and guess I left it on my bedside table. I also, same day, picked up a new script of my thyroid medication which I’d already been out of for 1.5 weeks. Thyroid meds – left in purse. Why? Cause the little round and white pills I take first thing in the morning an hour before coffee were on my bedside table.

A week at least. I got the script last Wednesday and should have broken into it that Thursday morning. A week with an unregulated thyroid and suspiciously good naps.

I’ve taken adderall instead of a blood pressure med for 2 days in a row. 😂

As an insomniac, I am a little jealous that melatonin makes you feel so sleepy. I have an anesthetic medicine (sorry, don’t know the right translation) and I get 10 times the dose someone would get in a hospital, and I am still awake💀

Oh no! That’s awful. I just switched from medroxy and I’m happy I don’t have to timber them now! lol. Just have to temper to change my estrogen patch

I wish melatonin worked for me even half as well as it seems to work for you.

    I don’t think that’s how melatonin works

You can be funny on your own! You don’t have to use a robot to do it! I believe in you.

That’s a tough mix-up! Taking melatonin instead of progesterone definitely explains the unexpected tiredness and missed periods. At least your sleep got sorted, but hopefully you can get back on track with your hormones soon. Maybe keeping meds separate or labeled clearly can help avoid this kind of confusion next time!
