I just moved across town, so I’ve been using Google Maps to get used to my new commute to work. The route it takes me on is mostly toll roads, but it showed the cost per trip as about $1.25, so only about $12.50 every week. Not great, but I decided I was willing to pay that in order to save a couple of hours every week. I’ve been making the same commute for about a month now.
Apparently Google Maps isn’t aware of one of the toll booths along the route. This one, single booth is $3. more than double the cost of every other booth along the route combined. So instead of paying $12.50 every week, I’ve been paying $42.50. For over a month. It adds 5 minutes to my commute to skip this one booth.
I saw the charges going through to the toll company, but I didn’t look at them that closely because I was dealing with more urgent things from the move. I already “knew” how much was going to them, so it seemed pointless to spend time and energy double checking that when there were things that actually needed my attention.
TL;DR: Blindly trusted Google Maps to have accurate information, and it cost me almost $300.

how in the would you not notice paying more than double at a toll booth? and not just once, but over 20 times
Why not just use no tolls to begin with?
