TIFU by wearing new shoes to a wedding and becoming an accidental sideshow

r/

I went to a wedding 2 weeks ago, not super formal, but fancy enough that I wanted to wear something decent. I had just bought new dress shoes a few weeks ago (finally grabbed a nice pair since I’d had a little extra savings from earlier this year and figured, why not treat myself a bit).

What I didn’t do was break them in. Rookie mistake.

Cut to the wedding reception: I’m dancing, sweating, trying to keep up with my girlfriend’s friends who all apparently learned choreography off TikTok or something. Mid-spin, I feel my sock start to slip. Turns out, the back of the shoe was rubbing so badly that it shredded my sock and the back of my ankle. I mean blood, folks. Blood in the sock. Blood in the shoe. And because I kept dancing through it (drinks were flowing, vibes were up), I didn’t notice until I sat down and left a little red smudge trail across the venue carpet. I died instantly when I saw it was trailing right back to me, lucky the wedding was quite big so not many people noticed, but those around me did.

The bride actually came over to check if I was okay. I had to explain that no, I wasn’t dying, I just didn’t prep my shoes like a functioning adult.

TL;DR: Wore brand new dress shoes I splurged on to a wedding. Didn’t break them in. Ended up bleeding through my sock and almost onto the dance floor.

    It’s a murder on the dancefloor…

Be sure to also offer the bride your sweat and tears, so she knows she can continue to count on you.

What is the likelihood that this will never happen again? lol

Thats common to happen. Maybe not so dramatically but still, new shoes are often worn in events and can do this to your feet if you dance

Did you panic at that disco? 🪩

This just reminds me of Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion😂 “I cut my foot earlier and my shoe is filling up with blood, bye!”

O put baskets in both the men’s and women’s washrooms at my wedding, with combs, anti static spray, those blotting papers to get rid of greasy faces, as well as safety pins, Bobby pins, mini sewing kit, hairspray, bandaids, and blister pads.

Many people used the goodies that night and were super happy.

Those are terrible shoes. Great shoes should not destroy your feet, despite what fashion attempts to dictate. Mephisto and Ecco have always been good for me.

Wondering who I could tell this story to. I can relate! I was at a friend’s retirement party this weekend with about 50 people.

The house had multiple levels so, holding onto to my martini glass in one hand and a plate of food in the other, I started down the small carpeted stairway that turned sharply midway and didn’t have a handrail. I’m thinking, be careful, don’t fall! And then for gods sake I fell on my butt on the stairs, spilling a taquito and some chips on the stairs below.

I look up and no one was coming! Except the dog who has a sign on his collar that said “don’t feed me.” He brushed past me and scarfed up the food.

I went back up the stairs and no one saw my fall or that I had spilled! It’s rare to make an idiot of yourself and get away with no one seeing – phew!

TL;DR: Spilled food while slipping on the stairs, the dog gobbled up the evidence!

Ouch! Op, mole skin and mole foam are cushioning you can cut to size. I get some to put by the inside heel of my shoe and put some proactive bandaids. You can find it in the foot care aisle of a drugstore or other stores with a pharmacy section. For future reference that helps a lot. And if your heels are still sore, you maybe want to put some in your regular shoes while the blisters heal

Pro tip: wear thick socks & walk around before big events. Helps SO much.

This happened to me too. I left them in the backseat of the bride’s car afterwards. A parting gift from me. lol!

Thats terrible! Has your foot healed up?

… I’m travelling for the day for a business meeting/networking event.. Realising too late these shoes aren’t fully broken in. Halfway through the day and I can already feel blisters on 4 separate locations

Dress shoes, especially good ones, don’t really “break in” much.  Great shoes should have a great fit.

Source-Me with narrow heels and this threat of self violence for every pair of shoes I buy.

I stood up in a friend’s wedding and I decided to wear heels. I ate shit coming into the venue and I almost ate shit walking down the aisle. Everyone laughed and so did I.

If this is in any way true, it doesn’t mean your shoes weren’t broken in. It means your shoes don’t fit.

Honest question: where do typical people learn to dance?
