Did an overtime overnight shift at work with a $200 bonus if you do the full overnight shift. People were blasting music out of a speaker to keep us awake and occupied for the long shift. I like Jamaican dancehall and some songs playing included Sean Paul as well as Tanto Metro and Devonte. I asked if I could play a song and I put on Popcaans song Fresh Jordan. Played the song on full blast and after it finished there was complete dead silence. My coworker then laughed and told me to go home. And a few minutes later my manager for the day came by and unplugged the speaker. I realized afterwords that there was a lot of moaning oooh oooh aaaahh in autotune and a sample of a woman moaning in the background throughout the song. But during the whole thing I was too tired to realize what I was playing. I ended up leaving 45 minutes before I could collect my bonus. Now I’m laying in bed letting Popcaan serenade me with his autotune while I think about sharing my music taste in public.
I’ve attached a link to the song if you would like to hear this absolute banger of a tune as well.

TL;DR Played an explicit dancehall song at work. I don’t think my coworkers appreciate my musical taste. Ended up getting embarrassed and leaving before I could collect my bonus.

Ouch, doesn’t make sense to leave 45 mins early because of embarrassment. Most people work for the money, the motivation for a paycheck outweighs what others are thinking. If you laughed and asked so you didn’t like the song, work would continue and 3 mins of a full shift doesn’t mean anything in perspective. Gotta be an advocate for yourself, if co workers tell you to go home for a song, and you agree to leave, you shouldn’t be surprised to not get the bonus. If it was offensive they could have turned it off.
Honestly after listening to that song, they were right to tell you to go home, not because it was offensive but because it was so bad.
I kinda like the song. I cannot make it if he says anything explicit, but there’s none of the sound effects that you mentioned. Whatever went on at work was not because of that. Probably after you left your co-workers are wondering why you left so close to the end.
